I wonder why the devs do not bother to test what they make.

Let me be really clear on this.

If you have luck 99, dex 80+, agl 99, and vit 99.
Full armor, and you are dead in two hits.

If you have luck 99, agl 99, int 80+ and vit 99
full armor, you are dead in two hits.

If you have luck 99, int 99, vit 99 alg 80+
no armor, you are dead in two hits

If you have luck 60, agl 99, vit 80, and dex 99
full armor, it takes about 10 hits to kill your enemy with same stats.

I tested this with two lvl 99's using different stats.

Lighting in the pvp area can only be countered by lighting. Anything else does not work.

It is not that hard, if you do not believe me, try it.

To jackdeth, the point is not magic vs magic, but magic vs melee vs range.

Magic will horribly created in this game from the start. And it is only getting worst.

Let me make this clear, it is a balancing issue.
The thing is,

A. pvp is not a major part of game play ATM
B. Mages are horribly bad in most pve cases. Due to the lack of armor and the slow speed of spells
C. Mages spend 5k on 1 iron ore, which gets like 8 bolts out. Assuming each bolt does 700 damage. Thats 5600 damage for 5k.

Are mages stronger at damage? Yes. Do they pay heavily for it? Yes.

I understand kage, but the orginal topic was on having a QUEST in which there was a player to player event.

Now I understand that I could have got, maxxie, to just stand there and let me kill him, and completed the quest. I understand that.

That still does not change the fact that if you are going to have a quest for all, you need to make sure that all can do it. Make sure that there is not one person, standing in the pvp area using magic, so the quest can not be completed.

The subject is not about the cost of magic, using magic in the pvp area, or even zero resistance to it. It is about creating a quest, for Halloween, which is suppose to be fun, that only mages can do.

Lastly, if you want to argue money, I can get about 1k every min or so. 12 bats a min, that is 1 bat every 5 secs. Now, only 10 bats either give me wings or teeth. That would give me 60k an hour, if i do not really trying. A lvl 30 could do this. All it would take is everything on str and a short sword.

60k will buy me 120 ore or 960 lighting.

Not all that expensive.

But the event is over. So water under the bridge.

Unless your a mage... in which it takes one lighting to kill one bat, so 8 bats for 5k... yeah... I am not doing math, but I say mages are still hurting here.

I'm looking at redoing the configuration of spectres; perhaps they could drop piles of ash at a higher rate so flare-dart becomes more viable for smaller targets?

Last time I checked, ore was going for 5k each, very often more. Has it really gone down to a tenth of that? :?

Still, I do think lightning was mostly designed for PvE use; the significantly lower PC max hp (in comparison to monsters) makes lightning OP in PvP use.

The simplest solution I can think of would be to have an item that greatly increased a characters max HP while lowering defense and dodge (regen?); though this does have many other implications elsewhere
What possible solutions are there?

Well I was thinking maybe we could take some armor (say leather) And add a +dex and +mdef bonus to them, and make them specialized for rangers. Creating a rock paper scissor effect where mage beats warrior, archer beats mage, and warrior beats archer.

How about wearing MDEF equipment also makes them more resistant to heals? That makes sense... I think...

Chuck a Runescape and let players be a tank and an archer and a mage.

OR....funny little or....

You stop lighting from happening inside, period. If the caster does not have a clear view of the sky, you can not cast it. You can even create an area in the pvp where there is an opening. Easy to do.

Personalty, Ea can not even balance how magic works; I am kind of scared on how Ea would introduce magic items. But please do, this is a test server. We need to test it.

Do not get me wrong, good job on creating the world. And working with what you have. But next time understand that it is not a cost vs act equation. Never should be.

Having magic in any campaign is about balance. Magic has no balance in this game.

It is about lvl 74. It rotates around lvl 74.

OTT. Since the beach was modified, all reasonable mid level farming areas are in caves etc. Removing the greater of the only two worthwhile attack spells in such areas would make mid level magi infeasible. While a reasonable balance is needed, crippling an entire playstyle is not.

For PvE: A work in progress. All of the old monsters used dodge as their defining difficulty characteristic (also placing undue emphasis on the dexterity stat) so magic would be unbalanced there. The graveyard builds seem a step in the right direction (possibly even overcompensated, (quickly) judging by some of the recent combat logs in that region), but the old monsters still need to be updated accordingly (either made harder to hit, to further emphasis magic effectiveness on certain monsters, or easier to hit, to negate the hit advantage on others, leaving only the lesser dps that magic users have (before any hit bonus is taken into account, depending on the monster))

For PvP: Agreed. I have a few loose ideas for solutions, as well as some interesting quests for them, though the initial sketches have (significant) implications elsewhere
