Grid killing is impossible for tiles with this grade of detail, unless you want them to look completely bland.

It would, however, help to have one or two variant tiles for every tile.

I had tried to work on that, it's still not perfect but i think it's better. As you'll see i also tried to add some variants of the tiles, but i don't think they look so good. Here's the tileset i use for this area :

 True. :)

 Indeed, it's much better to me!
I'll try it tonight on existing maps.

(Could you add the brown variation of stones? (Maybe I'm asking a bit too much? Don't feel offended in that case.)

Best regards.

I had dropped this color, here's a quick recoloring.

I see some improvement potential in the cave entrance. The shape is too perfect. A natural cave should have a much less regular entrance.

Now only to make the base tileset match up to the nice work you're producing here.

Since when were cliffs made out of lots of little rocks balanced atop one another? The Woodland Cliffs are like this too, and it may be easier to make it tileable like this, but frankly it looks awful however nice the pixel-art is.

That is actually rather typical in JRPGs and originates itself there. Also eroding rockface can indeed consist of similar patterns, which in our context is fairly irrelevant.

If something looks good and fits into its surroundings, it is good.

Interesting!

It's a good start, but it still looks very regular (some variant tiles would surely help) and the transmission from snow to ice needs some work. I would recommend to look for some reference photos of river banks or lake shores in the winter.

Non 90 degree angles would be appreciated.

Adding variation tiles, and transition tiles to smooth angles, is much easier once the base tiles are set. For example, with these :

we can get a bit more variety :

My first concern is about the base floor tiles :

Do they look good enough? and if not, how to improve them? (show me please)
Also, i agree the transition from snow to first ice tile could certainly look better, but my attempts so far were unsuccessful, some help there would be much welcome.

In my opinion the ice doesn't need to crack away that gradually. It looks far too wide. The tiles are looking pretty good so far, but there should only be a one- or at the most two-tile transition between the snow and the water.

If done well, ice floe tiles - to make ice floes of any size and shape - would probably go with this set.

The cliffs. I think your art is fine (although the light-source looks to be to the WSW rather than SW), but this set will never go anywhere good if you copy the exact shape of the existing tiles with your own textures. The current snow cliffs are hideous, and their shape is a major factor in that. Be careful yours don't end up just as bad.
  • The corner edges should not be straight lines. Look at the corners in the woodland cliffs.
  • With the same ground tiles for the cliff's top and bottom, the clifftop at the far end looks like a lump of snow rather than the beginning of a rocky drop.
  • The cave is... too black and curved. Have a look at the cave in the forest tileset:

(Also the wells/pond/swimming pool things: these are part of the original set, but look unfinished with borders that are too dark and no texture)

So while your art is promising, the set needs quite some work, particularly the cliffs.
