I won't spend more time on saying what and which violation TMW is doing, but that's a very bad idea and you're following advice from peoples who doesn't know what they're talking about
©.
For "requesting" art, you should firstly have people to agree with your license policy...

After talking with several people about why there might be an issue mixing GPL and CC-BY-SA graphics, I'm providing the disucssions I had with people from Free Software Foundation and Creative Commons about the topic:
This is the talk I had with paranoyea in creative commons' irc channel #cc:
During that discussion, he also pointed me to this article he wrote:
http://wiki.creativecommons.org/4.0/Gam ... al_content
This is the discussion I had with Yoni Rabkin when I emailed the
licensing@gnu.org with my questions:
Since we both quoted the last email and then wrote our reply, sometimes in between the lines, it might be a bit hard to read.
The general conclusion of both conversations was that the copyleft of GPL, and eventually also CC-BY-SA, can cause a problem when graphics of both licenses are used together.

Hm, what if look to licenses from other side?
Linking if even happend only on client pc, not in game, not in server.
Game only giving linking scripts (xml).
Is player allowed locally link different incompatible licenses? and he/she will not distribute this work (except screenshots)
For same way i think works DKMS in linux. it compile any sources to kernel modules locally and install this module to kernel.
But here i not sure too is it allowed to use any licenses. (linux kernel is GPL2 only)

The GPL only covers redistribution, not local use of a software. The end-user is free to link it to anything they want, as long as they aren't redistributing.

Fine dress sprite has been prepared for dyeing by Skipy, from the valentine dress:
http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopi ... =8&t=15843
Fine dress male sprite is by Skipy too, derived from original sprite I suppose.
Fine dress icon is by me (well, just a crop from the sprite, or preparation for dyeing from valentine icon)
Magic GM Top Hat icon and sprite is by me, derived from Top Hat.

Meway, you are not the author of the vampire bat, you're only a contributor compared to the artist who created the regular bat. We all can see that the vampire bat was made using the regular bat spritesheet.

I put the sprites in this order to follow the xml file. These bats were completely redrawn Every one of them. I am the original and only artist to work on "vampirebat" Those two image are not even the same. The image is mine but I will admit I borrowed choreograph so maybe 9 frames are close. That isn't the same.

Woops didn't see that typo. Just meant to put the tophat there.

Does this look all right?
https://github.com/jtoelke/tmwa-client- ... 1bc1cbb8d8
I left out the fine dress for now, because the situation is rather unclear. In the
topic meway linked to it is said to be originally Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0, which is a problem. Though this post from Rotonen:
http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopi ... 883#p61883
Rotonen wrote:At least back in the days while talking with Frictor, we had a common understanding that it could be made possible for us to nap that dress from them.
suggests that it may have been added under different circumstances. Unfortunately, the commit adding the dress doesn't say anything about that:
https://github.com/themanaworld/tmwa-cl ... 077a656f39 Also it was added a few months after the discussion from that forum topic.
Does anyone who was around at that time remeber the circumstances of this?
Edit: And does someone know how to contact Frictor or tametomo from aethyra? I tried their website, but the links on there doesn't seem to work currently.

I contacted Tametomo he said the dress is also under GPLv2. via irc.freenode.net #aethyra
Code: Select all
[04:36:32] <meway> Tametomo: where did the valentine dress come from?
[04:36:36] <meway> who made it and what license?
[08:28:57] <Tametomo> meway: Frictor, and according to the license file, Frictor used the same as TMW (GPL v2.0)

Thank you, meway! All right, I pushed the entries to the license file.

The license file we have in the client data repo says "GPLv2" instead of "GPLv2+". Is that right?
http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1177 links to the latest version of the GPL (v3 when it was posted and currently).
