Actually i have to agree on that.

One more point, I am pretty sure there are a few people who have more then one account in the forum.
Now if there is a group of let's say 4 players like that and they all vote no on one person, everyone with two accounts, that makes a big difference. 8 votes can mean a lot. But have no big value in my eyes if there is no real reason behind it.
"no because i don't like him" is not a reason btw.

So do not only look at the votes, read the comments too :)

Sure, if you give us the army of people who will read those comments, not to mention that if something cannot be mathematically proven it is not true (we read the comments after a person reached the required amount of votes and voting has been closed).

We have chosen two good GMs this way, so if it isn't broken do not fix.

We don't need to choose a new GM every week.

Regards.

Let's see what would happen when we would do it like Lord of the Flies says.

1. Everyone with 50:50 votes is considered for GM
2. We don't need that many GMs so we have to weed out most of them based on comments
3. People accuse us of listening to the wrong people, overrating bad-mouthing rumors, underrating positive comments and so on.
4. We have no idea who is believable and who is talking bullshit. So we finally elect someone as GM we know to be sane.
5. People say that all this voting crap was just a farce, we elect the people we want and not who the community wants, people start blogs claiming that the truth hurts.

The current system gave us two GMs - about the number we need - who are trusted by the community and do good work (at least there are almost no complains since they were instated). So why change it?

So you want someone to be considered for the GM position if the first post reads:

"qwertzu is good GM vote qwertzu. he really good person!" (this name is completely random. in case there is a player called like that: SORRY! ...was not my intention! ;) )

the votes are: 20 "YES" votes/ 50 "NO" votes (nobody knows how the 20 "YES" votes got there...)

But nobody has ever bothered to write any concerns in this topic just because they thought it was obvious that this very person would absolutely NOT make a good GM.

The point was explained many times, but you simply fail to see it. Current two successful elections proven the fact that community can responsibly take part their leaders elections, and can do it in efficient way.

Anyway I am not that good in explaining things like Crush is, so maybe he will be successful in the quest of doing so for you.

@Platyna: The fact that there are no open complains tells you nothing. Most players have been playing here for long and learned about this "say that something is wrong and get ignored" so they just shut up. Two good GM's have been chosen? Ok if all the GMs we have are so good, why is most of the 24 hours no GM online?
Not only the votes are important, not even with the comments. There should be a time of observing that player, after community said yes. at least for two weeks. You never know if a player just starts boot licking and goes online frequently to become GM.

@ Crush:
"about the number we need" -> clearly no:
The online time is a real issue. I mean look at that? Mostly when there is actually a problem, no GM is there to help. People get stuck somewhere, want to report something, there is not even a possibility to see if any gm is online, for those who do not use the 4144 patch. So you would end up sending @gm into nowhere. A solution for that could be a message when you get online just like welcome to manaworld a second one like "the following GMs are online".
See how people used to get trapped on those mini islands on the new eastermap, see at DarkWaters Topic she was there for how long? 10 hours? Look at spammers, botters, beggars, atm TMW is nearly like when there where no GMs at all.
So there are two possiblities:
- No GMs (rules stay as they are)
- Enough GMs so there may be some GM online most of the 24 hours

Leela, actually our community is quite good in complaining when they dislike something, especially GMs. They clearly proven this when they raised hell on forums and called me back when Delasia was being nasty.

Regards.

jup.. especially since you don't have the required gm level to use @gm.

Sadly, even if you sent a @wgm, its not recorded anywhere so a gm CAN respond when she comes online.

@Leela "Two good GM's have been chosen? Ok if all the GMs we have are so good, why is most of the 24 hours no GM online?"
Im sorry but i dont think you are seeing the whole picture here becouse when you get online we are sleeping. And when you sleep we are online. Please look at the GM log and read the time frames we connect there http://server.themanaworld.org/gm/

IMO we need another GM but in a diferent time zone. Katze is online when she can but we know she is busy, so another GM in Europe or Asia must cover the hours Ti and I cannot stay online. I connect every morning and afternoons and Tiana in her afternoon, and in the night we are both online(in hour time zone), but when is past midnight we cannot be there, so I think that is why we need another GM in a diferent time zone.

i meant @wgm - but I understand, that this way of reacting to a problem, was necessary.

@Narus: Got it, thanks. Actually you helped me proving my point - online times.

Choosing good GMs is important. Shouldnt be based on how popular one is but rather how good judgment/neutrality s/he can show. And s/he will definitely not care who's friend or foe when applying rules. Poll system sometimes seem opposite here. :|

Those are checked too. The poll system is for choosing candidates that the player base is comfortable with having as GMs. No one will become a GM on this server without being screened by GHP.
