This kind of annoys me, too. I have a lot of trouble with it.

Do you have any suggestions how the chat could be made more intuitive?

Possibly making is so there's no need for hitting the enter bar and then typing, then hitting it again? how about just having tabs with no hitting enter to get in to that tab.

So, to chat (using the keyboard), you'd need to use the mouse? Or do you want to remove all other keyboard controls and require the mouse to do everything?

That's not what I'm saying. Okay, have you ever played Endless Online? download it, try it, and see how their chat box and such are. That's how TMW's should be.

but if i would have to click my mouse into a tab everytime i want to say something i would get very annoyed. It is already a little annoying that we have to click through the tabs (whisper, party, general). Or can we navigate through them with the keyboard and i missed it?
anyway the "enter - text - enter" is not bad. And I never saw someone complaining about it until now...
cu ingame

By default, the official client uses [ and ] to cycle through tabs. 4144's patch uses numpad 7 and 9.

While typing, you can use alt+[ and alt+] to move between them. You can as always change the bindings.

On my keyboard layout, [] are done by alt gr + 8 and alt gr + 9. I can kind of see where that numpad solution came from.
