Vista: Nickos breaks talking to NPCs

Using The Mana World Portable Revision 3 (0.0.29.1 eAthena) on Windows Vista Business SP2 32-bit. Allowed the program to download all recent updates (kudos on the depth of storyline, by the by).
Tried doing a search for Nickos on the forum, but no results found and you cannot log onto the bugtracker anonymously, so i am assuming no one's actually reported this:
In Tulimshar, head to the south where a cave now blocks you from entering. You'll find a miner whose name escapes me and a guard by the name of Nickos. Talk to the miner and he'll sell you stuff, try to talk to Nickos and you can no longer talk to any NPC.
Can anyone verify?
