compiling error: gui/char_server.cpp:179: error: ‘rpl_mal...

Post by brynjarh » 04 Jan 2006, 02:48

I'm running Ubuntu 5.10

I've installed all the dependencies from the repository except guichan since it's not there, I was not able to compile guichan unless editing "include/guichan/listmodel.hpp" by adding "virtual ~ListModel() {};" to the "ListModel class"? I'm not a programmer so I don't know how to explain it correctly, but it worked.

So now I'm compiling tmw it self, starting by doing ./configure --with-opengl and then doing make.

This is the end of all the "nonsense" that comes when I do that. ;)

Code: Select all

Making all in src
make[2]: Entering directory `/home/brynjarh/tmp/tmw-0.0.18.1/src'
if g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I..  -DTMW_DATADIR=\""/usr/local/share/tmw/"\"   -Wall -Werror -DUSE_OPENGL -I/usr/include/SDL -D_REENTRANT `pkg-config --cflags libxml-2.0`  -g -O2 -MT tmw-char_server.o -MD -MP -MF ".deps/tmw-char_server.Tpo" -c -o tmw-char_server.o `test -f 'gui/char_server.cpp' || echo './'`gui/char_server.cpp; \
then mv -f ".deps/tmw-char_server.Tpo" ".deps/tmw-char_server.Po"; else rm -f ".deps/tmw-char_server.Tpo"; exit 1; fi
gui/char_server.cpp: In member function ‘void ServerSelectDialog::selectServer(int)’:
gui/char_server.cpp:179: error: ‘rpl_malloc’ was not declared in this scope
make[2]: *** [tmw-char_server.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/brynjarh/tmp/tmw-0.0.18.1/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/brynjarh/tmp/tmw-0.0.18.1'
make: *** [all] Error 2
Now I don't know how to try out different compilers, I have GCC 4.0, GCC 3.4 and GCC 3.3 installed, though I have tried to even though I don't know how, by changing the link /usr/bin/gcc to point to gcc-3.4 instead of gcc-4.0 and then do ./configure --with-opengl and then make, but as I said I don't know if I'm really changing what compiler is being used, anyway it doesn't work any better if I do that.

Any ideas what I should do next?

i was about to post about this error too, i get this

then mv -f ".deps/tmw-char_server.Tpo" ".deps/tmw-char_server.Po"; else rm -f ".deps/tmw-char_server.Tpo"; exit 1; fi
gui/char_server.cpp: In member function ‘void ServerSelectDialog::checkServerSelect()’:
gui/char_server.cpp:196: error: ‘rpl_malloc’ was not declared in this scope
make[2]: *** [tmw-char_server.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/david/tmw/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/david/tmw'
make: *** [all] Error 2

I compiled guichan from the scrath and well i still don't get it
this thing keep bugging me @_@

That's right.

I just recompiled guichan with success on 5.10. It seems to me your compiling environment is somewhat broken. I suggest you first try to fix/reinstall it.

If you distribution not uses /usr/share hierachy pass the --prefix=/usr argument to configure script while compiling stuff, especially libs to keep your system in order so you will not have problems with missing libs, binaries, include files etc. The solution is recompiling TMW depencies with --prefix=/usr.

i prefer to put self compiled (things that are NOT managed by packgagemanager) stuff to /usr/local...
and stupid that ubuntu wont get librarys from there also as default...
so, do:

Code: Select all

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/lib
and that malloc thing should go away (i assume you compiled guichan to /usr/local...)

ps. shouldnt this forum be called "GNU/Linux specific issues" ?! or are you a SCO fanatic ;)

I you have problem with self compiled stuff use checkinstall. And that game is supposed to work on many systems including for example *BSD which obviously isn't GNU and isn't Linux.

This file contains any messages produced by compilers while
running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake.

It was created by The Mana World configure 0.0.18.1, which was
generated by GNU Autoconf 2.59. Invocation command line was

$ ./configure --with-opengl

*Hint* *hint*. First of all: you haven't RTFM - Depencies information, and you are trying to use physfs 1.1.x which doesn't work with TMW. Tsk, tsk.
Second...you have installed that lib in the wrong place. Get physfs 1.0.x and configure it with --prefix=/usr. You may also play with your ld.so.conf (which I can't recommend since I think files shouldn't be spread all over the FS unless it is really required).

Feel free to, and TMW is buggy of course, it's still under heavy development, but please don't state it's buggy only because YOU were not able to compile it.

Problem exists by your side. If you are not willing to comply with the documentation we provide you can't blame us it doesn't work. I posted a solution of this problem for everyone who actually wants to use it.
