I was originally going to post this as a response to the "What do you think about a quest to the hell ???" topic but Platyna locked it 2 minutes before I was about to post this.
Here is my post and idea:
I don't know why people are complaining. It should have been obvious from the start that you would lose characters since the game is in (pre)alpha stage.
To tell you the truth, when I first saw this game I thought it was complete crap and would not have even played it for more than a day, but I looked on the forums and saw how much potential it had (and it was supposed to be like SoM online -my dream game- ) so I thought about helping out.
Enough of my story, I have an idea to keep people playing. We could probably create a special role and/or item for the highest level player on this server when the new server comes out. For example, say a player named "Uber guy" gets to level 230 (without cheating in any way) and he is the first person to get to that level when the new server comes out. The player "Uber guy" would then be known as the King of Tulimshar (if we will have player run kingdoms) or get a very special weapon/armor just for him or be both king and have a special weapon/armor when the new server comes. Maybe there could be 2 runners up also. I think this will keep people playing for a while, what do you think?
Yeah, I was just thinking that.
Maybe they should get a set of very unique skills instead of becoming a king. Or we could just let them be king and revolt anyway.

Well, I locked it because from my experience I know such discussions leads to nowhere, both sides just gets angered. Anyway despite the opinion people will stop playing because monsters are harder to kill and chars will be deleted sooner or later there is like 20-25 players online, forums and IRC channels are more active etc. Client and server development gradually and persistently goes forward, while most of projects like that dies before their first release, people see it therefore they will still observe the project and play the game.
I think that our most loyal players should get some kind of reward after the unavoidable big wipe. Nothing big. Just something to show off.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.
just an idea... wipe everything (except the players account and character names) but give them (lvl40+ or something?) a visable equipment goodie (maybe a T-Shirt without stat-points) as a reward.

Description: I played the pre-alpha for hours and all i got was that lousy t-shirt (increases coolness+1)
I know the tshirt is pretty useless but it would be very nice to wear it during ingame-parties.
And after the beta the reward could be a β (beta) t-shirt
Peacemaker: Level 58 - STR 60+ / AGI 30 / VIT 36 / INT 5 / DEX 20 / LUK 5 - wiped because of inactivity...
I like the idea about getting fancy looking armor or something it would be worth playing and competing for. Yea yea I know someone would have to draw the sprites blah blah.. The downside would be replacing your fancy looking armor with something stronger in the new game.
And it would be unfair as the armor would not only have to look cool be be useful as well. Creating unbalance 'n stuff.
Just stop asking for things that give you an advantage. You should be glad if you get anything at all. Whatever it's going to be it will be a collectors item, especially if TMW gets more popular. People are going to be hella jealous.
