Coping With Lag

It is evident that the Lag Monster is here to stay for a while. Does anyone have any creative ways to cope with the lag? I have tried a shot of Smirnoff every time I encounter the dreaded monster, but I become so inebriated, so quick, I’m not worth a damn. People think I’m AFK but really I’m just passed out.

Not real sure what you're asking for here but I'll attempt to explain what I do to avoid dying by lag. Monsters have a path algorithm they use to find you. A simple way to confuse that algorithm is to move in a squared zig-zag motion. What this does it forces the monsters path finding algorithm to constanstly change, thus allowing you to avoid "death lag". Note this only works well for archers and mages.

Square Zig-zag motion:

Code: Select all

>>>>>>
      V
      V
      V
      V
<<<<<<
V
V
V
V
>>>>>>
This basically in my experience helps confuse the monster in question, and also helps you survive during those terrible lag spikes. Besides that, there's also the little black dot that follows you as you move diagonally(This black dot represents where you are located according to the server) will give you a good idea of where you are, and where you need to move to avoid being hit during lag.

However, both of these "tips" won't do a damn when it's a huge lag spike(As in the sever considers you not moving at all)

Ok. You are right. Not what I was asking for...
Way too serious...
But thanks for the information!
I may try that the next lag I hit.
Seems that the server would think I standing still when I'm really running like hell during a lag.

Yeah there's really not much you can do in those sort of circumstances. I find it best when there's a bad lag like that to do daily quest, or sit in town and strike up a conversation.

I fight below my level monsters and stand right on them till I actually attack when lag is bad.
If I still can not hit the monster I restart my client.
avoiding high level areas where lots of magic is being used can cut lag also.
iron powder is fairly expensive so mages don't waste it on lower level monsters.
disabling particle effects and transparency can help also
closing all open menus including chat can help.

^^ That's how I cope.
read my manual : how I made lvl 99 grinding maggots lol

No, that won't do anything against network lag. Special effects and the GUI are completely client-sided and do not affect the connection to the server at all.

It might help when your framerate is low because your CPU and/or graphic card are weak, but that's an entirely different problem.

This thread did not take the direction I thought it would. I expected replies like:
"I stop and re-paint my toenails black"
or
"I hack a newly found firewall"
or my favorite
"I check the integrity of the rope and reposition the chair for the inevitable meeting with Savaric"

What ever happened to humor in the face of despair?
You guys are way too serious!
