Let me begin my hint with a story...
Once, when I was young (which was really a looooong time ago), my friends and me had a small hut on a farmer's land next to his house, where we met in the evenings. To smoke, we always went outside the hut and stood there in front of it, of course just dropping our cigarette butts on the ground.
Once, the farmer paid us a visit. As he was standing there, looking on the ground which was plastered with the remains of our gods of nicotine, we started to feel guilty and asked him: "Do you mind us just dumping our cigarette butts here on the ground or should we get an ashtray?"
His reply was: "Well, I'd prefer if you didn't just drop them on the ground here, but if you do, I don't care either."
Moral of the story (and my hint to mistergrey):
Adapt this attitude to life of that farmer, make it yours, and I guarantee that you will never ever suffer a heart attack (works not only in-game, especially when dealing with abuse, but also in reallife).
P.S.: Since it has to be a colored hint and an attitude can hardly be assigned a color, I'll just use the color of our cigarette butts, which was (and still is
