I have executed a 1-day ban so he can cool off.

(We may need a policy for dealing with forum bans ... I thought it better to post this than not)

Did you try to explain to him what he did wrong in a private message? That's usually much more efficient than just dropping the banhammer. After all, it seems like he is trying to help.

I sent a forum warning first, which I believe shows up as a PM because I can get replies.

I talked to him in Spanish and explain the kid the situation, he don't understand what he is doing wrong, according to him he was "just trying to help the game" providing a quest and a weapon and inviting everyone to play his server.
He is not a English native player and his English is very poor, that is why he did not understood the reason of the ban.
I think that we can use a little more dialogue before the banhammer hit a player. Lets not forget that "Language barrier" is really a huge problem for some players.

The posts "as evidence" are locked out of sight of most forum users.
The only question posed was directed specifically at forum moderators.

Why was this posted publicly? Was it just to embarrass the person?
Why not just send a PM?

I'm a believer that transparency is always a good thing.

I don't disagree with the ban and fully support it, but i have to agree, it needs to be made public. It sets precedent that will be used in the future, so by making it public we write the laws!

Moved from Court House to Feedback, because Court House is not a discussion forum. This also applies to developers, moderators and GMs.

Sorry for not noticing earlier that this thread was in Court House.

Regarding making bans transparent: We could handle it like a certain image board and add a big red "User was banned for this post" to offending messages instead of removing them. This, of course, only applies to human offenders. Spam from bots should still be removed without a comment.
