TEST: Pirates Treasure

George Near Hurnscald (008-1) is finally willing to part with his Treasure Map, It's going to cost ya. Where does the treasure lead? Look to the map for the first clue. What treasures are in store?

Pirates Treasure is now on the Mana World public test server. Please check it out and give me feedback.

I finished the quest successfully on the test server, but noticed an issue. If the player wears an eyepatch, bandana or a pirate hat, George used to comment on them — just a simple one line comment. Now, if you talk to him while wearing one of those, he gets stuck in a loop, printing the comment over and over again, not allowing you to talk to him any further.

Which also gave me an idea... why not give a map discount to players wearing those items, you know, from one pirate to another? Not necessarily every time, but give the players a certain chance of earning it.

Testing Pirates treasure:

I loved doing this kind of quest and I made it successfully, I did not encounter any problem.

Step by step or paces to paces all is done. Yeah ........! Got them!!!!

Hurrah another quest soon in game! Thanks Wushin :D

This quest is great =)
I was too stupid to realize how it worked so I had to checkout the Code first to realize what to do :D
but after that it was a great expierience walking across the map looking for the X.

I did not encounter any bugs.

The only thing I would change is the time you have to "take" to find the X. You should not have to wait I don't exactly know how long before you are able to find the next X. IMO this does not make sense. :)

best regards
tuX

15 ticks, it could be lower quest like this at least need a 3-4 tick otherwise you can speed spam them before they move. I could drop it to 5-7.

It worked fine for me except that it took me some time before I could find the first "sign".
Also I thought first that clue was to wrong; this is because you give longitude first, instead of latitude (you concatenate @PT_DirMsg$ at the end of longitude).

Player can talk several times to george between getting map and finding a treasure (I did it :P). Perhaps something like "Ya already got me map. Come 'n see me tomorrow." would better cover all cases?

( I added comments on latest (i hope) commit)
I liked the idea of trap, but it is possible to keep it ( trapped chests?) for later use. After testing Illia with Sient Dawn and V0id, I had also the ideal of a pick lock skill (thieves, based on dexterity and agil?...)

Testing Pirates Treasure again with low level:

I'm at level 40, I saw George and he sold me the treasure map. I went to South West of Tulimshar to reach my treasure.

I saw the X mark and told me: "You have no idea how to Understand the markings".

So, I guessed that the quest is for more level!!!

So what level a player needs to do it? I did the quest the first time with high level same as my main char in game.

Suggestion:

If the player is too young to start this quest, George should not sell the treasure map to the player <?? level and give the message like the Tulimshar magic school or he should say come back later I'll sell you a treasure map.

I've encountered the same particular problem Johanne has had.
Johanne Laliberté wrote:[...]I saw the X mark and told me: "You have no idea how to Understand the markings".[...]
Though, on test server i've tried it with a level 99 char and faced the problem. It's probably not related to the level then ?
I could do nothing during the problem, and when i came to ask George about what to do, he answered that i have to wait for tomorrow.
I think that this part of the quest is quite ambiguish, you don't really know what to do, especially in front of the non understandable panel ^^

Moreover, i seriously think that, if it's possible, you should hide the NPCs/marks to interact with, because counting the number of paces is useless once you see the X !
If you could hide the NPC and make it reachable only when the player is on one of the 8 tiles around it, that would be really better in my opinion. I don't know about scripting capabilities about this though.

Finally, the main problem i've noticed (donno if it's the same for other testers), is that if i really do the paces you asked to do, i never reach the "marked NPC", because of walls or cliffs for example... Hopefully that the "marked NPCs" are marked by a cross...

I like everything below so far. Good feedback.
1) Hide the npcs. (so triggers)
2) Clue npc & Treasure (half-buried chest) Npc images.
3) Make paces match terrain. and flip coordinates.
4) Poor George is completely broken.

Question: would you follow clues off to another map?

Sure, why not?

I was actually half-expecting it to be that way.

Sure, and even why not in another part of TMW ? I mean in Nivalis or Hurnscald maybe ? Or further in Tulimshare's desert ?

It happens when you get a small reward that you do not notice, (the map disappears too), 2 powders in my case.

So I waste for nothing 15000 gp, grrrr. (but didn't know why) so it's a trap and I remember that George told me come back tomorrow when I tried to get another map.
