CR1 update

I was assigned to do beach add-ons for CR1. Content Release one was meant to be used for the official switch from tmwa to manaserv if I remember correctly but we had some important members quit on us because they felt that there art was not good enough due to critique. Critique is important but it slows down production. If you want something done stop Critique and save it until all tasks are done. When all tasks are done than you should begin to Critique, fix and adjust. Unless of course the work is just terrible than you might want to give them a few pointers. It seems that this project is dead and there has been recent discussion about it. I would like to bring it back to life. If anyone is still interested in the switch to manserv let us know. If you think we should repurpose cr1 data leave a comment. If you'd like to get involved with cr1 leave a comment. ~ This topic could probably be moved.

The cliffside just looks weird with the sandtexture. Not sure why you did that, if it is supposed to be replaced with another texture later on, then I don't understand why you didn't keep the single color.
Also what happened to the lovely cactus TMW has? Why replace it with a cactus that has the wrong perspective (side view instead of 45 degree)

When you want to revitalize the CR1-Project, you should start with creating a list of things which need to be done and which already are done so that everyone has an overview of where we stand.
Regarding critique: I think that it's important to critique early-on, because it helps people to not waste time by working in a different direction than what is needed. But care must be taken to not demoralize the artist. That's, however, a responsibility on both sides. The one who criticizes must be careful to be constructive and the artist must be careful to not take critique too personal, especially when they don't agree with it.
When I used to be a pixel artist, I posted a lot of early WIPs especially for fishing for critique and I read a lot of it because I wanted to improve and become better. First it was really hard for me to deal with unconstructive critique, but then I learned to mentally filter between critique I agreed with and critique I didn't agree with and learned to just ignored the latter.

Yes you've helped me allot with this (: Also the cliff side needs work and there is some shaping up to do here. I'm not unwilling to do it. I just wanted to show a bit of progress. This is starting to look more of a desert than a beach but it may be useful to some. When I get time I will make a list of things that need to be completed. I didn't start CR1 and I'm not sure what the original vision was but I will do a bit of reading before I make an REQ and try my best to stick close to the original idea.

Speaking of CR1 (I would post in the CR1 forums, but I don't have the access level to post there), did anyone ever finish this

?
If not I wouldn't mind finishing it... Did anyone ever come up with a clear picture of what you want CR1 to look like overall? As some of the current content might fit that vision, so you wouldn't need to revise everything.

Added, though I'm not sure whether CR1 has any meaning. It's much better to just create art that we can use now - I don't see the benefit of making it exclusive.
I seem to remember there being a lot of procrastination relating to player sprites. It's important to ship, ship, ship!

Ivanmorve shared with me the latest .xcf version of the village tileset (now roof and wall tiles are palette size restricted), it contains everything about his past work on these tilesets.
On Evol we planned to continue to work on it for our future release, so doing a double work isn't much necessary.
Also, this tileset will be 100% in CC BY-SA 3.0, I wonder what're CR1 plans for licenses, nor if CR1 is still on actuality?

I thought the point was to avoid the clashing look of the current game, and create something that looks cohesive.

With CR1 some great art came around, would be a shame not to use it.
What else from CR1 or other projects (windmill, irus ship, etc) is not finished yet and not used ingame?
Great to see you alive Len btw, would be great if some of the previous works would be finished by a proper pixel artist like you!
