Forum RPG (discussion)

Post by o11c »

Edit: this is happening in The game thread

I was thinking of running a forum game, after reading about an experiment that made the-site-that-must-not-be-named actually consider the consequences of their decisions.

I already have the outline of a plot. I'll need to do a bit of mapping, but that could wait until after the initial stages.

Is anyone interested in playing this?

Open Questions:
  • When you die, should a new in-game thread be started?
Rules:
  • You, collectively will decide what the character does. If there are contradictory posts, this may be taken as schizophrenia and I might move your character erratucally. You *can* get yourself killed from your decisions (even if they're not caused by contradictory thoughts).
  • You do NOT know what's going on. This thread can be used to aggregate knowledge, but please don't use it to cheat too much.
  • Depending on how active people are, I will reply after something between 1 hour and 1 day.
  • (more to be added as needed)

I haven't replied yet because I still have to generate the next level, and I'm doing more important things.

bleh, in reviewing my notes, I just realized that I initially said the goblins had 1 dagger and 2 skull caps, but now have 2 daggers and 1 skull cap. I've altered the history to go with the latter.

Do you take suggestions? If so, I would like to suggest to have a bit more role-playing and a bit less dungeon crawling. Currently it feels like a NetHack Let's Play.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.

I'm aware of that, but a couple of features are kind of important to the plot.

Next game I'll try to plan it better, but I still need to learn just how it goes. I don't want it to end up as "You hit the monster. You kill the monster." ad infinitum.

Are you using some existing ruleset for what's going on? (dnd2/3/3.5/...)?

No, it's basically nethack but I'm too lazy to actually roll all the dice. I have played enough that I know how combat goes, though. (Yes, your kitten is better at combat than you for much of the game! I am kind of accelerating it, though)

But see http://nethackwiki.com/wiki/Dungeons_%26_Dragons
