Ubuntu 10.04: "network connection lost" on item pickup only

I don't know if this is Manaplus issue or server issue; so posting here. I don't know if it is only a Linux issue either.

I'm using Manaplus 1.3.4.28. The game has been working fine for a long time without this problem. I have not changed anything pertinent about my computer except to let Manaplus upgrade whenever there is a new release, which has been in the last week or two.

I get "network connect lost" notification when I have several items to pickup, usually only when three or more items are to be picked up. I have Manaplus set to go pickup items at max distance; so if there are several items, holding z button sends my character to pick them all up one at a time, and the connection will be lost before I get the last item. This happens all over the game maps, every day for the last several days. If I try to just pick up one item as it is dropped, this does not happen. If one kill gets two drops, this can happen.

This only happens when picking up items, never else. This happens so often that I have to relog into the game every few minutes or seconds, depending on how fast I am getting drops.

server very strict about packets flooding.
this issue can be settings or network lag.

For settings check in in misc tam somewhere at bottom "enable buggy servers protection". This option must be set.
If option already set, try not press Z key very fast.

Enabling "buggy servers protection" fixed that problem. Thanks for the helpful reply.

Before the last Manaplus update to 1.3.4.28 I already had that enabled, and it says "do not disable" and I did not ever disable it. I don't know how it was disabled, but it happened at about the time I got the last Manaplus update.
