Remake: Giant Squid

So I remembered a quick design I made for a Qiant Squid 3 years ago, I remember I was really proud of how it turned out ( the sketch ), but I knew the coloring wasn't good since I didn't know how to texture nor anything : P

Here's a new version I made today, it's still WIP.. you can tell that left 2 tentacles are far better than the rest of them since I had some problem in my house so I had to finish the rest really quick, and I was under stress.. Also the fins might need color changing, this was just a test : P
Anyway, what do you think about the improvements ?.. Is it worth sheeting this time ?

Sick!

Are you going to animate this or is this going to be a NPC?

Well I have no idea really..
Giant Squid isn't my monster idea, it's Balthazaars from this topic

Animating it would be a challenge since I'm not a really good animator, and I usually animate only small things like this Image

But my main issue is that I don't really know much about TMW.. I wonder if I animated the npc, would it actually be used in original The Mana World game, or just in private servers and such ?
And how many frames is a npc supposed to have ?

It depends of the animation that you want to introduce, it can be from 3 frames for an eye blinking to 20 frames to something as big as this squid.

it could be used in the main server, if someone had a use for it. I'm sure someone could find somewhere to put it.

The art itself is good, but you didn't put any light direction.

General art guidelines.

I can think of a few uses for an NPC or immobile monster like this.

I made some water bg so I can post this on PJ :)

and I usually make the light source coming from infront, but you reminded me that on TMW graphics light source doesn't come from front, but is slightly angled ?

Doesn't look too out of place in the desert, but it could use some color adjustments to fit in a little better. (What map is this intended to be in?)

I think those tiles are now officially beach. New desert tiles are being worked on.

Having this as a beach miniboss is one of the ideas I had. It can be used in several places like that.

For a mob i wouldn't mind using it in some ponds or by the water for this : http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopi ... 8&start=45 after all part of it will be a leveling area for higher level players and It needs new monsters.

great job so far by the way!

If I see this ingame I might run away crying like a little girl. Just saying.

Here's some concept on how it could work

the tentacles would be different npcs that would walk around the giant squid, they'll be protecting the squid

thoughts ?
