Best way for new player to

Hi,

I'm new to the game and could use some help starting out. I'm building a warrior-hybrid type (mostly balanced stats). What is the best place for me to train to lvl up? Also, where do I take my drops and items for sell as a new player with limited items? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Basically, hang on to everything except for all the duplicate low-level equipment.

I don't know how to level a warrior, archers for the win!

As an archer I can play in the graveyard at level 40; for a warrior that would be suicide.

lol, maybe I'll make an archer as a secondary character. If I made an archer how should I do my stats? also, thanks for the tips.

Also you could look at our wiki page. There is a walk through for the start and also some ideas on stats. Also stats have a bonus every 10 points.http://wiki.themanaworld.org/index.php/Main_Page

The Tulimshar area provides everything you need to increase your level up to around 30-40. The fastest way to achieve this goal as a new player, is to play pure archer, i.e. change your status to all to 1 but dexterity as soon as you can. The time and money you will spend to make this change, will be damped later. Complete all the small quests of this area, that were designed to teach you how game works, and provide the means you need. You do not need the wiki at this stage, visiting areas and talking to NPCs should be enough to provide the basic game knowledge and also, the initial and archer builds should oblige you to learn the basic reflexes that you need to be a performant player: retreat and move around monsters. Do not forget to register to Aidan for Ishi's monster points, the rewards provides you with items that you can sell in early stages of the game.
Finally, do not hesitate to ask a bit help to more experienced players who wander around. They are usually nice and will give you a hand to help you to cross this step.

I experienced this method here and on other servers, several times.

Notes:
With few exceptions where you may need help, the game is more fun when you discover the walkthrough by yourself than when you just read the wiki spoilers. The wiki explanations about game mechanics (Status), are a must for deeperknowledge though.
Know the Client software (many featrures will help, but require some time to be learned): http://manaplus.org
A small legal cheat: If you are short with items or money, you can make a second char on the same account (storage is shared), you can delete it later.

Around level 30/40 I started to level up on those cave snakes in the old hermit cave (it's just south of a river to the west of hurnscald)

Put everything in DEX and try really hard not to get killed.

Once you've maxed DEX out, start adding to AGI (or, if you're a coward, a bit in VIT - it does help with the item heal rate. But never more than 20 in VIT.) If you get lucky enough to find a clover, a few points (5 or 10, since that's where the bonuses start to take effect) in LUK can be nice, but DEX and AGI are where it's really at for archers.

IIRC you can only max DEX out at about level 60, so that gives you about 20 levels to practice not dying.

At lower levels, focus on the Mallard's Eye skill, but also learn level 1 in whatever other skills you can find. Once you get a Dementia potion and enough free skill points and have a high enough AGI, refocus on the Speed skill.

You'll probably need to do a stat reset to learn the speed skill though - or possibly get some bodyguards.

I agree on the fact that archer is the fastest way to level up, especially at a low level.

However, you're not obliged to create a second character. Consider the option to be an archer until you reach an appropriate level to switch to warrior... You will reach this level very quickly as an archer, and you can reset your stats everytime you want in Tulimshare, thanks to a NPC called Malivox.
This way you will quickly be able to be an effective warrior, whereas levelling as a warrior from a low level is long and painful...

About archer's stats, I would advice you to increase dexterity until you reach the max available in this stat. Then, do the same with agility.
This might sound a bit "extreme", especially for a new player, because you're very vulnerable. But this is worth doing it, as I think it increases your ability to dodge monsters efficiently.

Wow, didn't expect so many people to help, good community. You've all convinced me to go the archer route to lvl up faster. Thanks for all the advice.

heh, now that I decided to reset my stats and become an archer, I was wondering where do I get a bow and is there a way to set your class on this game or do you just train for it? Also does anyone have any advice for how a new player can make money quickly?

If you complete all the newbie quests in Tulimshar, I think you get two different bows.

But the best bow (until level 90) is a quest from the archery shop in Hurnscald.

Got it, I'll just do all the newb quests for now then. Thanks.

Thanks everyone. This super nice player helped me get that awesome bow in hurnscald, some clothing, some gp, helped me lvl up some, and reset my stats. Now, I'm doing okay. I don't feel so lost anymore.
