Blender has a "ring menu" now

Yet it looks like they still kept the hot keys and shortcuts as well.

It's not that Wheel Menu's aren't cool or useful. It's in the scheme of things to get work done how important is a wheel menu over Professions or so other Improvement.
I'm not even sure there are enough different things to populate a wheel menu let alone a drop down menu.
Blender isn't also competing real time with someone else.

The wheel menu is nice and I see no problem with it, but it's a design element that will get ignored in favor of keys in a MMORPG or RTS solely based on players wanting any speed advantage to win PvP or PvE.
