[WIP] Neoriceisgood's monster ideas

From the collection of forgotten stuff I found a pixelart made by
neoriceisgood with several monsters. Some of these monsters already exist in TMW (scorpion, snake, bat, red lizard, maggot, giant maggot, slimes) and basically I want to develop some of the forgotten concepts:

[+] "Fat Lizard/Lava Goblin":

[+] "Sabretooth Lion/Lynx":

To test them ingame, any Manaplus user can just copy the following .zip file:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/364 ... omdata.zip
In the "customdata" folder in Manaplus, If "customdata" folder doesn't exist, you have to create it.
Something like
"/YOURINSTALLATIONPATH/logs/customdata/customdata.zip" or "C:\Program Files\Manaplus\logs\customdata\customdata.zip".
When Manaplus starts again, custom data will be loaded and you can see these monsters replacing others in TMW, have fun finding where they are

I really do like neoriceisgood monsters. However they are designed for a 16x16px tileset with a 16x32px human scale. Our tilesets are designed 32x32px tiles with a 32x64px human scale. This mean that some of the monsters are actually to small for our world. Take for example the skeleton and the sand golem. Our hero can just trample on them. It would be great if you made these monsters at least twice as big, so that they are a real danger for our hero!
It is nice to see someone working on these concepts though
Also which one is the lion? from top to bottom you have: Lizard, Wombat, Dragon-like creature, and Stone Golem. I guess you mean the Wombat?

To put graphics in context I did the following comparison with the previous human's spritesheet, the current one and the tiny mobs.
Do it bigger can be a possibility. If we scale them with double size, the lizard will looks like an alligator, the wombat as a bear, and the fat lizard like a fat dragon.

I mean this one, looks like a sabretooth cat/lynx. It has a good size compared with playerset but textures and animations seems hard to do.

Put in Fire Goblin, Moggun and Yeti for reference.

I'm starting to draw animations but using the original monster scale. The problem is to become tiny mobs into a real challenge for players, maybe with more creative ways to attack, not only bite/punch/slash the hero. I take White Slime as a reference, it's tiny but does a big damage if provoked:

(explosion effect isn't mine, is from
killjerman78 at devianart just to illustrate the idea. I suppose coders can do particle effects with explosions like that)
@EDIT: doing a first try with sabretooth animations

it's hard to find different ways to attack the player when mobs are too small. I've some progress with animations, but still far to be finished.
In small/middle size monsters, the particle effects merges as a possibility to make stronger attacks, like the "troll" for example.

The "Sonic Waves" attack above is a concept idea to transform into particle effects code (?), still need to learn how to do it. Later!

I like the idea of sonic roars and such as attacks.

That lion with the sonic attack should go well with the egyptian theme monsters and graphics we have
here.
Just an idea i got when looking at it.

Having fun trying to develop the waves attack with customdata 'bruteforce'.

To get the waves in all views, I did an "invisible bow-weapon" with "wave missiles" for the monster. Particle effect now have 8 rotation frames including diagonals, like an arrow. Still testing some values to improve it:

I couldn't edit the first post, but I did updated the dropbox files with the following stuff:
"Greenie Lizard" and "Wombat/Wombear" :
Spritesheet + XML updated with a stand animation

"Fat Lizard/Lava Goblin"
I quit the idea of the self-explosion attack. In change I did a particle bullet to be used as a simple fireball projectile for long-range attacks.
