Would you like more events?

After hosting this years GM event with both veryape and nitay, I have to wonder if people want more events.

I had posted the rules on the forums, which stated very clearly "it's one prize per person, not per alt"!

Now, for those of you that understand, that doesn't mean one rare per person, or per alt. It means one prize per person! Take some time and read that again.

Lets say, for the sake of argument, you win an event and get a pick off gmstorage. And you really want the eye patch, but you pick 17 which is the ruby ring, we don't need to hear you complain that the event sucks. We didn't pick the number, you did.

Gmstorage holds 100 slots, 36 were special. That means 64 people don't get special items. If you didn't pick the good items, it isn't our fault.

Having said that, I went back in the logs, we had 7 people win prizes that made the event worthwhile for me. They were genuinely pleased to get what they got. And I am not talking about a scarab or eye patch, and I won't say what they won, because that would call them out, and I don't want to that.

But moving forward, if you can't handle the fact you didn't win the best prize, perhaps don't play, or at least stop whining to us for trying!

Well I certainly think there should be more events.

They add to the fun, for instance bringing more of the player base together, participating in minigames that add some variety to the typical farming and grinding, working together to kill the mobs, often good xp and sometimes drops too, encountering far greater numbers of mobs, or outside of their usual zones, and sometimes even ones rarely or never encountered in typical play, etc.

And sometimes there's the chance to win rare and valuable prizes too, and of course some players will be more or less happy and satisfied than others with the outcome of that part, much like with other things that involve competition, chance or gambling.

But that still doesn't mean there shouldn't be appreciation of the additional fun that these events offer to everyone, whether they win big or not.

Thank you to the GMs for taking the time and effort to host these events, and hopefully there can be many more in the future.

@Prsm First of all thank you and the GM team to host yesterday's event.
I already knew that it took long and that you had a lot of effort but after you told me that it took you 4 hours I was like this: :alt-2:

Personally of course I would love to see more events.
Not even because of the prizes, mainly because it's just nice how events attract players and somehow connects all of them.

About the prizes:
I know it's additional effort again but how about handling out the prizes after IP checks for alts?
So PlayerA picks number 19, you write that down, then PlayerB picks number 19 too but will get 19+1 (since 19 was already picked) and after IP checks you make a forum post which player won which prize and who doesn't win anything because they cheated with multiple characters.
Is that a possible solution?

Of course we do, you guys have done a great job on this event.
I just want to warn some players that got really expensive rares to not sell them or just ignore some players that will try to get this items from them for a really unfair price.
And there should be a GM not hosting events but checking IPs while the event is happening.

Faulting people for picking the "wrong" random number? Really? You do know what random is, right? I hope you were just kidding. The only real determinants would be the number of slots to pick from, and the value of items in each slot, both of which were 100% under TMWC control and 0% under player control. Perhaps you should consider the obvious implications of throwing players into some Dystopian scenario, randomly awarding some with "treats" and others with (relative) "tricks".

Regarding alts, I totally agree. But I guess some felt entitled (or angered) sufficiently to game your game.

I didn't even bother to log on for any events, let alone play them. No regrets, either. If I had played your event of bingo-roulette, I would have come once, on one character, and been grateful for whatever I got. I would have said: "Thank you." But not everyone is the same. Some people, not me, actually have expectations of life and other people. And you know what they say: "Unhappiness is the divergence between expectations and reality."

So why did I even bother to post? It irritates me when people in power or privilege complain about how difficult or unpleasant their lives or life events are. That's why.

P.S. Don't erase it this time. You may not like the truth, but it didn't break any rules.

I'd see no problem with having the community vote on item awards for certain events if we have more. The only opposition from that is going to come from the collectors, but if you keep the quantities low price should hold stable.

However a GM's event, what they say goes though. 100%. Don't like it, don't participate.

If anything seems like it's falling on deaf ears, stop offering problems and instead offer solutions.

Blackrazor people knew what they get into, we said in advance that the chances are ~1/3 to get a rare item.
If you think we could do it better, why didn't you say so before the event?

Our reason for relatively small number of rares in this event, was cause of the scale of the event. everyone who participated picked a number. we didn't want to flood the market with too many rares, so that the effect on the economy will be more balanced.

Prsm wrote this post after a particular player, who did some edgy stuff before, tried to cheat on this event too. Besides trying to cheat he also complained about his reward. So you can say it was the straw that broke the camel's back.
It was not intended to all players in general, it was his reaction to whiners. yes some people are whiners, for example a player who won the third best reward present on GM storage, cried to me that some part of the event wasn't fair enough, although his best friend won that part of the event...
Some people won't be pleased no matter what you do, Prsm was talking about these guys.

P.S stop with the conspiracy theory, no one deleted your post (if they did, it was an accident). we accept criticism unlike our previous host who silenced it, we just prefer it to be constructive.

I understand your description of the events. Prsm should have PMed those two guys instead of writing a post to everyone.

There is no conspiracy (that I know of), why would you bring that up? My post was in fact deleted, probably by skyggen-Wushin, and it was no accident. At least he PMed afterward instead of putting his unhappy thoughts in the public forums for all to see.

I'm fine with events. I'm fine with rares. I'm fine with probability. But then again, I am easily amused; some people are more picky. I'm not so fine when TMWC members complain to the entire community over the actions of a couple players. He openly wonders if the *entire* community is deserving of more events, just because a couple players, hardly representative of everyone, gave him a hard time. Honestly, based on the type of event and the characteristics of people, what did he expect?

From what i understand Prsm posted just to show the gm's view of the events, if it is too much of a hustle for us to host events we might not bother with it in the future. He didn't hang anyone in particular out, but said that something had happened and that it isn't fun for us to host events when people try to cheat and/or complain. If people would like events please play by the rules and don't complain about what you win - that is the message as I understood it. And yes, I agree with him - we spend time to host those events and to plan them, it is no fun hearing that an event that you have planned for hours "sucked" because someone got something they didn't fancy.

We don't want to shame anyone, we want everyone to see our side of it. We do out best to make interesting events, feedback is welcome, ideas on new events are also welcome. Saying "your event sucks" isn't productive. That is all I have got to say on this topic.

My feedback is simple:

Keep events less random if you can. Random rubs some people (not me, but some) very badly, and if your goal is to minimize complaints, then as non-random as possible is the way to go.

Understand that some players will always complain and / or cheat. It is the nature of managing any online service, or any community of people. Know that you signed up for that when took on the job, and try to grow a thick skin to it in order to survive with your sanity intact. GMs above all should be especially aware of this, by now, since they deal day to day with enforcement. Try to deal with those few individuals privately and avoid posting it on the forums unless it comes to an infraction, in which case I guess it winds up in *that* section. Again, this is only a suggestion, if your goal is to minimize your overall grief and unhappiness.

Putting negativity out there on the forums, when you are in a *leadership* (TMWC) position, will only encourage more of the same from your community, regardless of your intentions.
