[FND] Ship Flags

Heya folks, working on some flags for the big merchant ship at the beginning of the game.
This front one is the only one I've done so far and I would like feedback in order to improve it and move on to the flag at the top of the mast.

Note that this front flag will be animated when the boat will be at sea and unanimated when at port as there is no wind. Although, the flag on top of the mast will always be animated, it's high in the sky thus always under the wind.

What do you think of the color of the flag? I chose this color as this stands nicely over the water. I used the crimson cashmere dye color palette.
Do you have any idea of a logo I could add on this flag? Remember it's merchant boat.

Nice idea, any respectable ship needs a flag.

Feedback-wise, the flag has a bit too much of a shine to it. Maybe less white in it? The wood of the pole also needs to be a little lighter in colour to match the wood of the rest of the ship.

Tried improving the colors of the flag and of the pole.

I like it but maybe a figurehead on the prow could be better than a flag?

Then I guess the flags would be better at the top of both of the masts. Once the flag animation done, I will create two different XML animation file to avoid making them move at the exact same time.

What do you think of that?
EDIT: maybe a bigger flag on the tallest mast? Just a test for now.

Just to be sure, as I cannot really tell on the screenshots which way the ship is facing, though most of the times the flag is at the back of the ship, so I guess it should be oke. Is the flag of the ship waving in the correct direction? I always mess up the direction of the flag on ships, as the correct direction feels unnatural for me

Flags facing the good direction (forward):

You're actually quite right about that! In order to make the ship sail correctly, the wind comes from behind, that means I need to change the direction of my flags to the other side! Thanks :D

Your palette is way too much contrasted, your saturation and light value shouldn't be that different. Don't take our indoor curtain as example!

How about that?

In my opinion the palette before was better. This is too saturated. Flags should be visible from far away, and are really colour full. The only thing is that your old palette is quite 'shiney', like I would expect from some kind of metal instead of clothes. I would suggest to take your old palette, and keep the base colour the same, and only adjust the shadows and highlights closer to the base colour.

Yes, that is how I would imagine the flags

I wouldn't mind a little help for the flag animation, I'm kinda stuck to be honest.
For now it'll stay static until an animation is drawn.

If you guys need inspiration or help, here is a great tutorial:

As for the colours I'm happy to come up with flag designs for every city in Gasaron so that we can make all ships fly different flags and have some lore immersion.

We already have a logo for the Legion of Gasaron.
Every city will have a different color for their flags.
Right now, Artis will have a purple-ish flag and Esperia a dark blue one.

Cities under the protection of the Legion of Gasaron will all use its logo, there will be a different one for the Brotherhood and another one for a 3rd "company".

Although, the boat is under no "company", it doesn't belong to the Brotherhood nor to the Legion, thus no logo.
