walkthrough and related

Post by ksso »

Hello

A suggestion is about an enhanced walkthrough, maybe let Drasil Island to do that part, and this walkthrough could be one-player-specific, so each new account play their own drasil island (away from any other players), after the completion (maybe mandatory walkthrough) they would appear in whatever random or selected place in Artis or something like that, and could interact with other players.
Maybe is better to deal the walkthrough from the game itself, instead of a long written page on wiki.
The walkthrough could be guided by important NPCs (of different factions or races) with words, arrows, and the idea is that player must do basic things before finishing: leveling stats, use items, main keys and windows, etc, however not could be so long.

Another one is the possibility to merge (or call in tandem) some windows like inventory, equipment and shortcuts (so you just drag items between them). Or there are another windows that are nearly used. Also when you go to the bank, and want to deposit some item, the inventory automatically will open, no needing to do extra taps.
Also the manamarket could be incrusted in the main town so people could easily put their items (may be just drag) and wait to be sold out. It could even have a desk or trail where people could see what kind of items (if there are) are there (without needing to tap and search), just some way to know it

By default, some windows open with F1, F2, F3, F4 keys, however, there are laptops that do not have that keys so could be great that for that keyboard the default keys were another ones.

If there are focus on quests, maybe there could be some introductory videos or animations for quests (also for the first time account). Maybe nice to have this conversations with npc in first plane or zooming the npc, and it could move some parts of their body or face with the conversation. The conversation box could be replaced with plain text over characters, big, with different colours and so; and the conversation box or log could be down together with general and related tabs, that could be an idea.

Thank you for your patience and hardworking :)

It is possible to have instanced maps where you're alone. For the starting areas it seems to be popular wisdom among MMOs in general to keep players together and show them that others are also playing the game. Logging into the game for the first time and being alone for over an hour through the starting area simply takes the MMO out of MMORPG for that time. Players should have a chance to meet and play together from the start. Of course, sometimes they'll be alone because we don't exactly have thousands of players online at any given time, but especially because we don't I don't think we should isolate new players by design.

The second thing is a client feature request. Unfortunately we're dangerously short on client developers and contributors. New suggestions are always great and can always be revisited, but at this time the only priority in regards to the client is to find people who would like to contribute.

it is technically possible to add special command links (@@=command|text@@) to NPCs to open specific manaplus menus and NPCs can also display the keys to open menus without knowing the actual keybindings of the player but currently there is no way to highlight parts of the UI or add arrows or manipulate the UI layout

I think by walkthrough, you mean more of a tutorial of the client and intro to the game? Evol part is a bit like a game tutorial, I find.
The client does show arrows, I thought, if you use the blue ones used in M+ tests. Pretty sure you can just call on them like they're client data? IDK if arrows help any, but it does look pretty pro at the start, but these things in regular game would look out of place, of course, but the ability to make something appear and disappear without being an actual game thing, could be useful anyway. Can a map overlay be called on to start and then stop?
