It depends on if you want to have fun or just level as quick as possible.
If you want to level fast nothing beats the bat caves. Kill bats until level 35 something and then start on rudolph slimes in the winter map. Then those big maggots in the desert.
If you go with the archer build you can start killing rudolph slimes and harder monsters much earlier but I dont like going archer. It's to easy.

Much depends on how you build your character so you have to think about that too.

There are basically three different builds you can try.

Vit melee
Melee character that relies on many hp for enduring attacks. The most important stats are Vit and Str. And of course a bit Dex for hitting.

Agi melee
Melee character that relies on dodging attacks. Most important stat is Agi. It's more important than Vit in the Vit melee build. When your Agi is pretty high and it becomes expensive to raise it even more you can start to invest into Str. Dex should be so high that you can hit what you can dodge.

Archer
Needs Dex, Dex and more Dex because it increases the damage. A good archer needs no defensive stats because he doesn't get hit when he is played well and the other stats don't do anything for archers (yes, I know, that's imbalanced. But we are too busy with creating the new game system to care about maintaining a perfect balance in the old system).

Actually that's not necessarily bad. I built my first character like that and it was going well.
I couldnt hit monsters? Put points in dexterity.
Monsters hurt me when they hit? Points in vitality.
I dont hurt monsters very much? Increase strength.
I pretty much built my first character that way and got a survivor. :)

Started a new character because I wanted to try the vitality melee type Crush described.

Ps. The description I made about how I built my first character is for a melee warrior.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I also put some points in agility and luck. They dont cost much to raise a little and make quite a impact in the long run.

My choices would be AGI/VIT for melee and AGI/DEX for ranged.

Why?

If you have high AGI, you hit really fast and almost nothing can hit you, if you have high VIT, you have a lot HP and even when you get hit, your defence bonuses from VIT almost nullify the damage.

For ranged, to be able to constantly hit and shoot insanely fast: what could be better?

Some people use DEX/LUK builds, since you can hit all the time and you crit all the time. Also you get a lot lucky dodges.

I think that summarizes the popular builds in TMW, although I've not been playing all that much to be able to tell the current situation, these are rough builds and probably not the perfect ones.

My long ragnarok online experience says that a build with Luk is quite useless without any equipment that boosts the crit rate (which we haven't). The defensive capabilities of Luk are minimal considering that you only get one percent lucky dodge chance per 10 luk. so you would need some hundred luk to really feel an effect.

Dont dismiss luck so fast. It doesnt cost much to get a critical hit chance of 5%. 15 points. That's not much, it's cheaper to raise low stats, and that low 5% chance can get you far considering how many times you swing/shoot that weapon.

Rotonen: I dont agree. If you go melee you have to cause some damage and you do that with strength. Otherwise a fight will take forever and I dont think the protection build is more effective than a balanced where you can give some decent damage and also take some.

My goal is to be any kind of warrior, rigth now i'm trying to raise as an archer but i have good str and vit because if you run out of arrows and you can't use your sword, you are dead !

I'm doing mine as a mix, and its working out ok. I have enough agility to dodge over half the incoming attacks, enough dex to hit anything in the game and to be pretty effective with a bow, enough strength to be killer with a sword, and I even have some luck. Why, I don't know, because I don't exactly know what that does. And I'm building my vitality right now in lieu of the lack of defensive items. Archers are definitely the best to level with, but warriors are just cooler. :P
