Original client: version 1.9.3.23 got installed instead of 2.1.3.17
I'm on Linux Mint 20.1 (Ulyssa) which is based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa). I was using the forked version of ManaPlus. But due to facing lag on test server i thought to try the original ManaPlus client. I followed the instructions given on manaplus.org but it installed the 1.9.3.23 version. How do i get the 2.1.3.17?

I am wondering the same thing...

Ubuntu guidelines forbid package updates unless they are security patches.
Manaplus 2.1.3.17 has NO security fixes.
Therefore, it is only available on rolling distros or distros released AFTER it — that is, 2021-03-17 onwards.
For your convenience, we provide an UNOFFICIAL Manaplus 2.1.3.17 AppImage in http://serenata.tmw2.org/ManaPlus.AppImage for use with the Mana Launcher.

Jesusalva, thank you. But the test server is still laggy for me even on the new client AppImage given by you. Like, on normal server if i use the Social window -> Nav tab to walk distances, everything works fine. But on the testing server, for any client (1.9.3.23 original/forked, 2.1.3.17), if i do the same then my character just stops in the middle of the walk. If like the Christmas event, a new event happens on the test server then i don't want to experience the lags again
