Launching soon: Source of Mana

Several devs, advisors, etc. have been discussing a TMW-related server+client project built on Godot with a well-structured dev team. The project is called Source of Mana, a nod to Manasource as well as one of the themes that will be part of the game's story (mana being a source of life and the mystery of where mana comes from). The game will have a consistent design from game mechanics to level gameplay and storyline.

Most people involved are either TMWT or Advisers and SoM would like for now to exist under the TMW umbrella. Hopefully this can bring life back to TMW as a community as currently there seem to be no active development projects. Because of the number of TMWT members interested in SoM, I'm assuming SoM will integrate into TMW by consensus, but if anyone has objections they can open a poll about it (please don't :P).

Lots of people have shown interest so I won't list specific names, I'll let everyone post their feelings about it on their own. The project will be led by Reid - for consistency there will be a specific creative direction. I don't expect TMWT bureaucracy to affect SoM too badly, as we will vote internally on development stuff that doesn't touch TMW's structure.

We will be using Itch.io for updates. The page is currently under construction. You can also see our GitLab page once the source is opened (soonTM). Finally, Discord is the main place where things are taking place. Working on an IRC bridge (soonTM). Oh and we have Twitter, cool huh?

We aim to create a substainable and lasting client/server that fixes most of manaplus/hercules issues while reducing the amount of work by using godot as much as possible.

We have to start clean because there is too much luggage attached to TMW's clients and servers and right now, our current tech and processes are outdated and can't bring any new contributors as there are now real engines available to anybody to do their own game. It's a living hell right now to add a mob, an item or just an NPC in-game, we are trying to simplify everything with this prototype.

We have two different branch, one is the latest stable version working on Godot3.5, the other one is the dev branch "working" on Godot4.
https://gitlab.com/sourceofmana/sourceo ... ree/master
https://gitlab.com/sourceofmana/sourceo ... ree/godot4

master is frozen until we find a way to import a map on godot4 as they entirely changed their map management.

We had to switch to Godot4 as it features some network, navigation and map changes we were aiming at in order to continue the game/client/server development.
