The Mana World Forums

The current situation on IRC and Discord has proven to remain confusing. We have:

• #themanaworld (bridged to Discord channel #themanaworld)
• #themanaworld-dev (IRC)
• #themanaworld-dev (Discord)
• #themanaworld-team (bridged to private Discord channel #themanaworld-team)

Problems with this situation are:

• We have unbridged "dev" channels on both sides. In practice the Discord one isn't used because it would leave many out of the loop. The IRC one is used, but some may not be aware that there are people on Discord missing those discussions.

• #themanaworld-team is private on Discord and we can't just flip it public due to previously private discussions there.

• The "-team" postfix is confusing, because the intention for this channel was to have a bridged dev channel.

I would propose we change the setup to the following (it may look familiar):

• #themanaworld (bridged to Discord channel #themanaworld)
• #themanaworld-dev (bridged to Discord channel #themanaworld-dev)
• #themanaworld-irc (IRC), alternatively #themanaworld-unbridged

Actions required to reach this state:

• IRC: Move #themanaworld-dev to #themanaworld-irc
• IRC: Move #themanaworld-team to #themanaworld-dev
• Discord: Make sure bridging happens on #themanaworld-dev
• Discord: Archive #themanaworld-team

In the end things should be cleaner and less confusing. No more "Discord-only" channel and a clearly marked "IRC-only" channel. Opinions?

Good on my side, although, it was always handy to have a bridged private channel to handle mana team discussions for admin/moderator or even sensible discussions that shouldn't be public.
But I believe we could use the forum for that matter.

Makes sense to me.

Yeah, I think forums are generally better for such things. I guess this also a different topic because it is (based on the current situation) about re-introducing a private channel we don't currently have.

When we have a general agreement, who could make the above changes? I guess it would be best if Freeyorp takes care of the IRC side and for NetSysFire to take care of the bridge setup. I could do the changes on Discord.

Personally I think it does makes some sense.

But I have to admit few things anyway.
1) Its a bit annoying to be footballed from channel to channel. So I only got moved from -irc to -dev just to leave it soon back to -irc again? Nice approach, doh. If this really must be, I think lets it keep just #themanaworld-irc as it has been? I already have plenty of logs of this chan, growing another log file would add to inconveniences. Tho no reasons why -unbridged can't be redirect -> -irc.
2) On my side of story I would leave -dev IRC in this case. It would be nice to get some warning in advance.
