Resource update fails

It's been quite some months that my client gets slow at logging in especially if I don't stop the update process.
In the log I got this error. I even git cloned clientdata but I guess the problem is not there.

This has been fixed in client (ManaVerse) about 4 years ago, but distros are still using manaplus. (It doesen't help that there hasn't been an actual manaverse release in ages).

Technically as I understand problem is:
1) M+ downloads normal TMW assets. This part works - and is on TMW servers.
2) M+ trying to check mods/M+ version and so on on. This goes into M+ servers.
As I understand manaplus.org had only rather basic cotent and version check and mods were in fact redirecting to some of Evol Online servers. Seems its what became unresponsive.
Since main download works, you can just cancel update when it stuck and it will have no negative impact on gameplay. You can also choose to skip updates as quick-and-dirty solution. Since assets do not update THAT often it would have no negative impact most of time but speed up login.
