The movement of the head and neck in that attack animation are a masterpiece in my eyes. I wonder how you could make the body less static and still retain that aspect of the attack.

I've voted for special effect because it makes the monster visually more faster.
just an idea... How about an alien style attack like in the movie?
I mean its such a nice animal ... and suddenly its mouth opens and a subhead strikes forward to hole-punch the enemy?

I voted for sfx. But I'm not sure how necessary those will be when the ears are added. And I think his mouth is too dog-like in the attack animation, eventhough I love the look of it. The way the lips are retracted and the amount of visible teeth are just too much. Have a look at this:

Your monster is great!!!
But in the side view the tail mouvement is strange... i think something like this should see more natural:
Even here the tail is too straigth, if you could the mouvements of the tail like an S it wold be great.
It's the same for the back view, because the tail doesn't move at all.
Any way good work!

yeah but those are details, just like I said:
these kind of detail are trivial for the working in progress versions, in the final release I'll probably fix all there errors (or give it to someone fix =D cause this kind of thing drives me nuts
)

The bite attack (with special effect) animation is nice; however, the body is too static.
For instance, the legs should be bent and the body weight should probably shift back before the biting; otherwise, it would lose balances:
