How many logs do I need to bring this guy? I have to have given him a good fifty of them by now, but he just keeps breaking them. Am I supposed to take them elsewhere and get them fortified or something first? Any help would be appreciated.

There is a one in twenty chance that it will work whenever you bring him a log. When you already tried 50 times you just got bad luck.
