According to my research those by Wacom are the best you can buy.
Unfortunately I only have a cheap one by Pentagram (a rebranded aiptek) but well, it was a present.

I own a Wacom A5 Graphire 3 tablet. And it's really great. Unfortunately it's hard to get it working properly in Linux. But it XP it's easy to get it working with Gimp.
If you know your shortkeys you can draw great things quite fast. I never could've drawn the roof for the
Savannah houses without it.
I don't have a lot of experience with other tablets. But my bro Hammerbear has an A6 Graphire 2 and before that he had a cheap one for a few days which he returned because it was inacurate.
So yea, like Crush I would recommend a Wacom.
