Self admitted says he's allowed to, seems not in spirit with the game.

The question is: did you actually *see* him hitting monsters that were obviously out of range? It wouldn't be too difficult to send "move to ..." and "attack monster ###" packets, in which case it would appear to that person that he has attacked from out of range. But as far as the server is concerned, he *has* moved to within legal attack distance.

This is very much like the bug where people get hit by a monster after moving away from it - their client thinks they've moved away, but as far as the server is concerned they are still standing there getting pounded on by the monster.

I went through the attack code, and I don't see any way to attack a monster without it hitting a function to check the range. So I think this is just some wannabe hacker fooling himself.

I agree with you what he just thinks he is doing something but the point is that the 1. He thinks that he is successful, 2. this "exploit" can easily be turned into a bot which he might be doing 3. If nothing else he is probably sending unnecessary packets to the server (but realistically probably less than someone actually playing) 4. he isn't playing the game as it was intended instead he is attempting to turn it into something which he can selfishly exploit and, admits so, to achieve some unknown aim which would be fine normally but this is a MUD and he's trying to bend the rules. He's not Neo and this isn't the Matrix

Wanna be hack hmm.... Well. I don't think so. I have more then one character. One of them is Ninja Muffin. I'm not a wanna be hacker. I'm a packet editor. Until someone has told me Packet Editing is COMPLETELY ILLEGAL in this game. I will continue. If you don't believe that I'm a packet editor then go to the bat cave. I'm there right now. The only thing I'm moving around for is looting. So go ahead. Call me a "Wanna be hacker". I do't consider Packet Editing hacking. I can hack though and I have been for 3 years. I'm not gonna Hack though because I could do alot more with normal hacking.

And yes. I am trying to find a way around the rules. I'm really not trying to break the rules though. I want to follow them because I like this game. And I would like to continue playing. If I really wanted to disrupt the game I would. I don't plan to though. The way I could disrupt the game is with a trade packet it making everyone near me spam traded. I'm not doing that though. I want to follow the rules and enjoy the game. I'm not some selfish person trying to "Make the game my own little toy". I'm just enjoying it with the stuff I like to do.

Oh, and to explain one last thing

The only reason I can attack thingsout of my reach is because I have the packets of all the monsters in the Bat Cave. I also using an attack packet. That's all I need to attack them

You aint no hacker. A hacker would have noticed the Image button before making 4 posts in a row.

Anything that compromizes the stability of the server and hence the fun of other players is to be deemed idiotic.

It depends on how you use it.

As long as you don't use it to get a gameplay advantage or disturb other peoples gameplay there is nothing wrong with experimenting. But when you do get an advantage and you do annoy other people repeatedly you can expect to get banned.

By the way: it is much more comfortable to just edit the client sourcecode and recompile instead of using an external program to manipulate the messages sent or received by the client.

Oh, and karol, please stop posting in threads which are half a year old.
