Post by Spit23 » 08 Aug 2008, 09:20

Hi! I was bored today, so I started to make this rice hat.

How do you like it? Please give me some feedback.

Not bad at all, I'd continue working on it.

very nice idea, and it looks good. (I can't give you any advise, but I hope the more skilled artists of this forum can)

A fairly solid piece of pixellation.

Why is this not getting proper attention?

I'm not sure about the outline, though.

Welcome aboard.

It looks very nice! :D Though I must confess that I first saw it as a wooden bowl turn upside-down. Perhaps making the rim narrower, giving it the appearance of a wide, thin, hollow cone? [Wikipedia: Conical straw hat]

I believe the thick rim was what confused me at first, but it could also have been the texture which I find looking like something between wood and straw, not sure what gives me that feeling though.

And welcome to the forums, a nice introduction I dare say!

Thanks a lot for the comments. Ces I think I understand what you mean, had a similar feeling about it. Now I changed the height which makes the hat wider.

Indeed, shape looks ok. IMO it is a bit textureless. Also don't be afraid of 8-bit alpha channel. Maybe something like this?

I really like how iru got the structure to be clear. I might be a bit off with this crappy laptop monitor of mine, but the tone choice for the structural highlights could be the point where the potential for improvement still exists.

I just made outline thinner, and add some highlight on opacity 30%. It is just cheap trick ;P

I'm sorry to say this but I think the perspective is a bit off. looks like a front view

The texture is very nice indeed, I would add some brown dark dots on the borders so you can imitate straws.

Shape is good, my advice is to slim it a bit the on borders

I simply perceived it as non-round.
