The beard lacks detail because you tried to put in too much detail into it.

The beard makes the chin lose shape and the texturization looks too much like static.

I don't know if your grandmothers have perky tits, perfect skin and an upright posture like 19 year old girls but mine hasn't. Although my grandma might be a bit older than yours with 96 years (and still living in her own household, by the way).

The player spriteset is a good starting point to keep in style. But NPC development is more than just putting clothes on it. To create really good NPCs you should experiment with modifications at the base spriteset.
