...I'm new here...And this is my first attempt at creating a sprite, and it's a pumpkin...I used MS Paint, but the quality didn't come out well. I have no knowledge of creating sprites, or programs to use for that matter, so if you could, give me some suggestions, and I might re-do this...

nothing wrong with MS Paint, must of my avatar was made with it (however most of us use gimp)... I'm assuming this is not a monster but an object? anyway your perspective is off (we use a 45 degree view, just think about standing atop your roof looking down)
your perspective

TMW perspective

also whats the idea behind the yellow outlines? Is that to make it look as if its glowing if so you should try using the alpha transparency in gimp

The only problem with MS Paint for me, is that the quality doesn't look good. But thank you for the GIMP suggestion, I think I may have tried it a while back, but never with pixels. I don't know why I choose the yellow, and I'll change the angle for the image.
~Edit~
This one any better?

Yes much nicer indeed
But, I think it lost some quality, because you saved it as a jpeg (try png)

While there's a lot of art that needs doing, I think this is already done for the pumpkin hat:

Will SVN allow hotlinking I wonder?

Well, I tried saving as a png file and it works! Thank you so much. It really has helped the quality remain. I also redid the pumpkin again, with and without stem. As well as redid my avatar, basically the same thing, but albino. And albino pumpkins do actually exist. I have proof.
Oh, and octalot? I understand that I could try doing something more useful, but keep in mind that I'm still new to this, and should try out smaller projects before moving into areas that require more skill.
~Edit~
Finally figured out how to remove layers in GIMP. I'm adding the final file, in case anyone ever wants to use it. Might come in handy, since it's around Halloween...

He was just giving an example of an existing pumpkin.
The light direction is off. Light in TMW comes from the SW.

I simply mirroring it should get the light direction right.
I thought it was unnecessary to do, but the new one looks tasty; something to eat instead of something that's already been turned into a hat/lantern.

Yes, the current pumpkin hat looks aged.

Of COURSE I would forget something as simple as light direction! Anyway, if you like it, yay. I'll flip it.
I kinda like making food stuffs...Maybe that oughta be my specialty?
Also, I'm a girl.
Eggplant. That is all.

I made an eggplant as well. Why? I don't know. I tried a different technique in shading...Feedback on it? If you don't like it I'll do it the other way I do.
Apple.

Yay, another one. I've been creating edible items today, and considering that I'm still new to this...I'm not completely horrible.

There's already an apple sprite in TMW (I guess you know

). But it should sooner or later be redone cause the shading and perspektive is wrong.

Also note that item icons need to be 32x32 pixels.
