Should an admin promote his family members for eg. GMs?

Post by Platyna »

As the topic says, do you think it is ever right for an admin to promote his family members such as a girlfriend for high positions such as GMs or moderators?

I don't want to start any flame war but I can't post locked poll, so just vote and do not post (I will delete all posting made here).

BTW, this phenonema has its own name: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nepotism

There's a reason why the other poll was made. This issue isn't black and white.

This kind of black and white thinking leads to situations where people related to admins can't hold any important positions in the project just because they're related to an admin. That's a view I completely disagree with. If the person is qualified, it shouldn't matter who they are related to. Having more than one active admin would help matters.

The importance doesn't just relies on if it's related somehow; it is that there are better options out there, and/or the chosen GM isn't too well known around the rest of players. Remember that this IS important.

Well of course anyone who's qualified should be able to be a GM. But I thought this poll was asking should an admin promote someone to be a GM just because he/she is family.

Nope.
It was supposed to mean something like:
"Should an admin (Bjørn Lindeijer) promote a family member (his girlfriend) for GM(, no matter if they're qualified or not)."
or
"Is it morally wrong to promote a family member?"

And I know that. I've followed the whole discussion. ;)
