Kubuntu is Linux. Linux is not UNIX, the owners of the UNIX IP, Novell, even said so.

Kubuntu is Ubuntu with KDE instead of gnome. GNU is not UNIX, Linux is only a free unix like kernel.

Linux is based on UNIX, but that doesn't mean that it is UNIX. Linux is free from all other OS-es. Saying that Linux is UNIX is like saying MAC OS is UNIX or Win**ws Vi*ta are DOS.

Linux doesn't include any UNIX code so how can you say "Linux is based on UNIX?", Linux may be unix like but it isn't based on UNIX.

Macs are UNIX. As of the intel leopard, they are no longer classified as 'UNIX-like'. On top of that, Linus Torvalds wrote the Linux Kernel himself from scratch, no UNIX injected. And Windows Vista can still read batch files and can do command.com like things. As much as Microsoft hates to admit, NT is based on the DOS kernel.

UNIX is UNIX, Linux is Linux and Mac OS X is weird.

First of all... Cut the offtopic discussion into another topic.

Second... Kubuntu is just a distro - you may have OpenBSD kernel in it instead of Linux one. Then it's Unix. I got Gentoo with OpenBSD kernel, and it worked just fine.

Macs are not even computers, so I see not point to argue. And Leopard is not UNIX, it is UNIX-compliant.

Regards.

OS family: Unix (Leopard Intel),[1][2] Unix-like (all other versions)

Yes, "unix-like", on the same article it says Mac is UNIX compliant, it is not the same as being UNIX. ;)

Regards.

Since they use Intel cpus since 2006 I would prefer to say Macs aren't Macs, since there slogan always was "We build our own hardware and therefore it can't crash".

Well my point was that Mac is just an imitation of a computer and their OS is just an imitation of an OS and their phone is just an imitation of a phone, so the conclusion would be that Apple does nothing than cheap imitation, with the only difference from other cheap imitations that they are not cheap.

Anyway, the only acceptable Apple thing on this world is Apple juice (with Zubrovka).

Regards.

Wrong. The reason Mac OSX until 10.5 was UNIX-like was because it was based on BSD (as is OpenBSD) which is not UNIX compliant, but UNIX-like. From 10.5 Mac OSX applied for UNIX certification and now it is considered a proper UNIX OS, just the same as Solaris or HP-UX.

I dont see how a Mac can be an imitation PC considering it uses off the shelf parts that are the same as what make up a standard PC. It's just as much a PC as a DELL, or a custom built computer. You can even run Windows, Linux or BSD with no problems, the only difference being that most PCs dont use EFI, but BIOS.

I cant understand how the stupid Microsoft Windows adverts that promote PC actually benefit Microsoft, since promoting PCs helps Apple just as much as it does DELL, and HP. Strangely no-one in the advert admits to using shitty Vista, which is a cheap imitation of OSX, in the same way Linux was a cheap imitation of UNIX, its also why Vista will never be as good as OSX and Linux will never be as good as UNIX.
