Hmpf. Because of (insert one hebrew, long, a little boring, often told and old story about oil, G'd, 8 days and a temple here), there is one candle enlightet per day. On 25. Dec 2008, there have to burn 5, and on 26. (now) you can enlighten 6 candels on the chanukkia. Take care not to burn down the house and enjoi it.
And you are right, the middle candle is to light the others, and its called "Schamasch", what means "buttler".
