I spent 2 hours download the mana world just to find out the items.xml has an error what gives

When it took 2 hours to download TMW you seem to have a very slow internet connection. After you start the game and logged in wait for the updater has finished. When the updater does not finish properly or it does finish properly and the error remains then please post in the appropriate support forum with a descriptive topic title and a proper problem description.

all it said was could not connect to update server

If you can't see the update server, then you can't get the client data you need. If it keeps happening, there are other options.

After a couple of hours trying I got it to connect

When you have problems with the updater and would rather use your web browsers download manager to get the updates that's how you can do it:

-Go to http://updates.themanaworld.org/
-Download all zip files listed in http://updates.themanaworld.org/resources2.txt (ignore the 8-digit hexadecimal numbers behind them)
-Unzip them into the data folder of your tmw installation in the order they are listed in resources2.txt. Overwrite existing files.
