Yes, this was indeed an april fools joke.

There are currently no attempts to add more PvP combat to the game, but it is not ruled out that we will do so in the future.

But when we do so the PvP system will certainly not be made in a way which actively supports ganking or includes an obvious way to dupe items.

Apologies to OnymA and Goku who noticed that it was an april fools joke a few minutes after I posted it. I deleted their posts to avoid spoiling the joke for others.
As some have already found out we were developing the new PvP system for months. Tomorrow we will finally implement it on the main server. The system works as follows:

-Players can attack each other everywhere outside of towns.
-When you kill another character in battle you get one KP (kill point) and you may steal one item of your choice from their inventory.
-When multiple characters helped with defeating another character everyone gets one KP and a copy of the stolen item to encourage teamplay.
-When you lose a fight against another player you lose one KP
-To avoid griefplay players which did not move from their position for more than 10 seconds can not be attacked
-100 KP can be exchanged at the bounty hunter chief (northwest of Hurnscald) for one of the following items:
--Goggles
--Leather goggles
--Eyepatch
--Crown
--Cap
--Fake GM Cap
--Desert Bow
  • former Manasource Programmer
  • former TMW Pixel artist
  • NOT a game master

If we lose a quest item, are we able to redo the quest to receive the item again or is it lost for good?

So, do those of us that had Desert Bows and other unobtainable items get them back?

Did anyone do any research before enacting this. This has been tried on other systems and failed for multiple reasons.
1- What about those of us that do not want to worry about dealing with the thieve clans that are going to be roaming just to kill and collect our items.
2- What are you going to do about the clans of friends who will go find a corner and give a created noob a super rare item, have the 3-4 people all attack and get copies of the same rare item. So now there will be thousands of antlers, and other rare items, so now NOTHING is going to be worth more than a few hundred gold pieces......"-When multiple characters helped with defeating another character everyone gets one KP and a copy of the stolen item to encourage teamplay."

*Soapbox* I see that the ALL of the very rare items are now going to be readily available, so again those older players get screwed our of our equity while nothing is done to take care of the people that have millions stashed away in casino coins and GP in multiple accounts.
Are there ever going to be items that are very rare that won't show up as common items later? In real life, I can earn money to buy something rare, ie art, without having to worry about it becoming WORTHLESS the next day, unless it was a fake. On the plus side, I do not have to feel bad about my 50+ items being stolen from my hacked account, cause they would no longer be worth 50M, they would be worth 50GP.....

My answer to tarax would be to do a complete item/money wipe and we all start at 0...problem solved. I'm such an awesome merchant I'll become the richest in no time. Big ups for pvp!

These PvP sounds like a really nice event, but if you make PvP permanent at some point in the future, then it will be tempting to create a mules and kill them to copy a rare items. :P

someone said the client would have to be changed to do what crush is suggesting, so I'm not sure if this is an "april fools" joke or not. However, it isn't the first time a dev has suggested this be the pvp style for the game.
