Make it round to begin with and rather use scaling than bursting out of shape. Sharp angles and straight lines seldom look good in our context.
This message used to be meaningful.

You are right, I took a hard look at the first frame and learnt a very important lesson.

I need help with alpha aliasing, I've tried, but I sucked and couldn't find any good documentation to explain the concept.

oh come on there are enough smileys though a few could be changed that no-one uses

but a love emote?

I mean I get hassled enough buy a couple noobs who keep sitting one me :$ and I mean, a love emote would let the harass people more, and think about age groups.... There is enough love rubbish on there already don't add more. Personally I'd much rather see my favorite :/ and -.- smileys on there and here then a heart.

Tintin is a bit rough.

New emoticons are always a good idea, because a great part of MMORPG is about communication and team play, whatever the kind of communication you're talking about.

What is right is the fact that Emoticon's bar should maybe show the player's favorites ones first, and then the rest of the 'catalogue' whenever there will be one, in a more functional way.

Anyway, thanks for contributing adamaix.

Every idea needs to be roughed to see if it stands :D if its a good idea it'll prevail against all odds if it bad idea then a slight nudge will send it tumbling ;)

but fine I get your point ...

@Bertram Thanks for your support, I've chosen this section to increase my skill and knowledge on pixel art and animation. I am still a bit of a newbie pixel artist, though I am a somewhat okay artist in real life (by hobby, not by profession), so I understand many of the basic concepts required.

@Tintin Criticism of all types are welcome, and I value the good and the bad input.
The :/ and -.- smileys and a few other variants have already been requested by other people, and I do plan to follow up on that and create an entire set of quality animated emoticons.

Here are a few things i did a few years ago. These are all meticulously hand drawn using various grades of granite pencils.

My favourite piece of art:

Those are mint pics lol!!!

honest theyre great!

and yea a bunch of smileys would be good and people can choose the ones they want and drag them to the bar from the smiley tab, make it pop up like the inventory but full of smileys and you can use them from there or drag them down onto the smiley bar :D

then it would make more emotes because with just 10 its like 10??? everyone uses the same ones, even having half a dozen of each kind would be good then it would make more flavor and color in the game :D.
