Unfortunately, my son and I logged in this past weekend to find we no longer had our characters. They had been deleted or lost. We started up news ones, but we had a lot of stuff that is now just gone. So sad. Who would have thought you could get so attached to virtual stuff.

That must be it. I think I last played in May 2008, and he hasn't played for a few months either. Maybe there should be an auto email to let people know their account will be closed in 24 - 48 hours?

No email address is requested at account creation.

The new server TMWServ requests an email address, but saves it in hashed form to avoid disclosure of the addresses in case of a database leak (it is only used to verify the email address for the password request function). But purging accounts should be rarely necessary on TMWServ because it doesn't use a flatfile like the current server but a relational database which scales much better with a high number of accounts.
