Question regarding Jack's quest

I was looking through quests when I saw the one which you get the wooden shield... I got the 40 raw logs and then I went talk to Jack. But he only said "Good luck with hunting those tree monsters - you will need it". Actually I didn't even talk to him to start the quest, I think I've talked to him a long time ago - when shields weren't even here. Maybe can I do something?

You need to finish the forest bow quest first.

Fyi, the bow guy is going to break your pretty logs looking for a good one... have fun with that.

Yeah, whoa I've spent a total of 37 logs with that, sooo unlucky
