So.

Devs in all the cardinal directions, do you not agree that it would be a marvelous world if different barbers in different places of the world offered different haircuts? One barber refuses to do anything but shave your beard, another have a long-hair fetish, and a third doesn’t give a Chocolate Cupcake as long as you dye your hair with the latest fashion colours... This could enable hard-to-get haircuts. And even, perhaps on tmwserv, players could learn to cut hair, of course with a probability that the resulting cut would look horrendous.
Ha ha ha! It censored my faecal choice of word!

I already have plans for different barbers to offer different styles and colors under TMWServ, where it's a lot easier to do.

Well, frequently changing character haircuts/colours makes them less recognisable, but that's up to each individual player to worry about.
My personal guess is that if you implement this feature (which shouldn't be too hard-- just re-use some of the semi-generic menu code used e.g. for Lora Tay's tank top/shirt adjustment and allow the caller to specify the styles/colours they wish to allow as a bitmask), no-one's going to stop it from being added to the game.

It would be fun when there would be some hairstyles or colors only offered by barbers which are very well hidden or require a quest, so that the answer to the question "where did you get that awesome haircut?" will be a hot insider tip.

While I think it would be more convenient, I think that right now it is pretty interesting to see women talking about 'going to get my hair done' and then taking off across the desert. I know it sure gives my wive something to do. I'm definitely not about needless travel in RPGs, but I think in this case the situation is satisfactory. New hairstyles would be interesting.

That is one thing I want to do. Make certain styles and colors hard to get. But we need to tell the client which styles and colors a player can start out with.
Also having some barbers only do styles, and some only do colors. A chance of it going bad (wrong style or color) is also doable, as are fees to get changes made.

Hi,
it might also be fun to forcefully change the players' hair style/colour in certain cases. (An earlier prototype of the magic subsystem did this, borrowing an idea from The Slayers). For example, let's say that there is a certain boss monster that uses fire to attack. If a player dies from that monster's attack, they wind up with shorter hair (or no hair at all), choosing a `chaotic' hairstyle. (This should be for boss monsters and magical spells only, though.)

Well, we could make characters start with a basic "noob" hairstyle and a random haircolor which is either blond, brown, black or red.
Other hairstyles and psychedelic colors have to be earned.

Doable. If we do require payment for changing hairstyles and colors, they should also start out with a voucher for a free change.

i am missing some points in how this would go
as a permanent and always the same barbe or moustache ?
why not paying a daily fee so that you get it cut?

is there going to be an esthetician shop for female char?
