Is non-AFK botting legal?

From what I have read of the rules, it seems to me that non-AFK botting would fall under the category of client mods, instead of afk activities, and so be legal. Before I do anything of the sort, I want to know if this is permitted. I don't plan to do any AFK botting, just non-afk.

well if you were not afk you would be able to answer a GM I suppose. But unless it has changed in the past bots had to be approved but these were friendly bots that were unmanned at times.
Seems it would be next to impossible for anyone to know if you had modified your client to do a task if you were there to interact with GM's etc.

Yes, well, in the forum posts I've read about botting, it says AFK activities are what is illegal, not necessarily botting itself. So it seems to me, that non-afk botting would be perfectly legal, I just wanted to check with the GMs to be sure.

I would check with Platyna to make sure before implementation just to be on the safe side. Not sure if it has come up before or if the GM's can make a ruling on it or not. Here is the section from the wiki concerning bots but like I said this is mostly speaking about afk bots.

I think a Bot is considered afk if you are just using your client modified I think this is not considered a bot IMO. But better safe than sorry.

Yes. As long as you are there to respond to GMs, you are fine.

+1
If you can carry out my math problems and converse with me, then I have no problem.... but I also think that for transparancy sake, you should make your patch available.
I also think that if your bot worked on a timer, say 2 minutes, it would save you getting banned if you ducked out for a drink etc.

(21:45:14) Freeyorp: paying attention, even though it isn't them 'pushing the buttons'
(21:45:45) b_lindeijer: It's not forbidden to automate the boring tasks in the game.
(21:45:51) Freeyorp: So, would that be something that GM's have to check for when encountering a programmed bot?
(21:45:54) b_lindeijer: It's just forbidden to be active in the game while not being there.
Automation would seem to be allowed as long as there is a human player present, not sure if the rules are being interpreted in a different way now though
