you gave him money before getting the hat (that's not smart, always make sure the hat is in the trade window)

Always avoid situations where you give up something for nothing
* never let someone try on your stuff "come on man I just want to try it on"
* never play a game where you give them stuff with the understanding of them giving it back(games of trust)
* always make sure the trade what you want in the trade window (example make sure its not 2200gps instead of 22000gps)
