My point is that your standards for privacy are so high that being that zealous would indeed kill marketing.
And it probably does as nowadays marketing mainly works by mining data and selling targeted ads. Are we here to play or sell something?

What do you mean with "favour"? You favour libre software by installing GIMP because you don't want to pay for Adobe Photoshop?
Without real needs and contributors hardly libre software evolves into a better one. TMW is no exception.
