[REQ] Tileset: Crypt_indoor

Hello all,

referring to
http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopi ... 13&t=11263

I want to do an indoor map of the crypt.
Here are my ideas of stuff which would be very useful for crypt_indoor.
Since I like mapping more than tileset creation maybe someone
would like to help me with the tileset.
What is needed in the tileset (IMHO):
- some kind of bench (like these in woodland_indoor, but rotated 90 degree)

- benches might be destroyed.

- more candles (can we have a shimmering candle light?)

- a serious wall, that means, a bit more creation and changes in
comparison to this wall I
merged from arena floor and the wall of the crypt outside.
The light is currently not set properly.

- maybe a variation of the arena floor circle?
to make curves that bend the other direction.
(in a crypt, you can have a main room, and some minor sub-crypts,
so a way out of the central circle is requirred)

- some kind of book or ritual stuff which can be put at Altar (or Opferstein,
or whatever religion there is inside the crypt)

- some more statues and figures made of stone
(like in arena, but in different styles, maybe just a rotation)
I don't know, if there should be a connection to real religons
i. e. Shall we have Crosses or half-moons or Candleholders with 7 arms?

- the floor of the crypt can be the same as in the arena-tileset.
But a a bit recolored: the color and brightness differences should be reduced IMHO.
So far, I have done a little working on that by myself, but feel free to help me.

Hi, Argui
here is a "wall" made of irregular blocks in a ancient but still used style
based on dry stone buliding technic.
Before going further i would like to know if it fit TMW style and your request.
Not a pixel "artist" at all so feel free to comment.
Thanks for reading.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, Whistler, but you still need a lot of practice before you are good enough for TMW. I would recommend you to follow some of the tutorials on our guidelines page on the wiki and study work from other people (TMW artists and professional pixel artists) to learn the necessary techniques.

The best way to start learning is by altering existing art to make new art. Most of what is submitted here isn't used or accepted. If you'd like to make new art, PM me and I'll send you some requests for small item monster drops that might be useful for some future quests in the works.

this brings questions to my brain

1.as of now are there any plans in the works for the Crypt ??
2.can it be used for the reaper's home??
i have some ideas roling around in my head about ..(mostly on the quest side of things)...
im willing to give re-work some tile-sets for this a try(only after creepy npc,s are done)...but i dont want to step on any dev toes ..or get in the way but would love to help on this....

if you want to see my half cooked idea pm me(not ready to show in pub.)

Because people are trying to rush the reaper release, I figured a crypt would be good for it.

Okay. Because I have so many people now working on this reaper, the crypt and a script for it...it has now become part of the priority Inn release. So we need the tilesets to make this happen also before the inn is put into the game.

Hey Whistler,

nice Wall!

But actually, i am new to pixel artisting, too.
In the wiki I read, that this question is essential:
Can your Tileset be used in various forms, so that the mapper can freely vary and play with your tiles?

And yes, since I made a map by myself, it is important for the mapper to play arround.

Tommorrow I will try to merge your stuff into my stuff.... maybe the result is better than both of us.

Here is a sample u can do now with my tileset:
Since I am new to tileset creation, maybe some of the experienced would like to comment on that,
I will learn by my mistakes ;-)

i sort of get lost in doing this.....

-did parts fetching...lots of re-coloring and some remolding of some stuff....its a start...... needs random stuff (candles, bones,etc......) .....i think im done on this for tonight .....it should fit good with "cave-set" and "woodland set" stuff....

time for brake lol--------------skipy

Thank you guys for taking the time to answer

Beside the absence of light, perspective, texture, "mapability" this was made to bring out
"contrast" with those regular shaped blocks by using really irregular blocks, out of the ground
, just shaped to be solid enough for buildings. Was just an idea trying to break grid visibility.

I like your frankness Crush and will try to learn the necessary techniques following your advices
and Wombat's. This "scetch" sounded a bit ambitious with my skills but frankly that was the idea.

Good luck, Argui in your interesting and promising work, joined the working file for a better understanding.

added candles....
if some one that knows more then i do about making tile-set could look this over..that would rock...im way new at doing anything with tiles ....(im not a mapper...but im trying  ) ...

And to take a whole other approach to the crypt:
I thought that something like catacombs where the walls had the alcoves for the dead bodies.
real quick rough wip made with some tmw stuff on hand. I was thinking of hanging chandeliers on the over layer with candles in them and maybe useing a little particle effect for the flame. I like the ideas of candles and spiderwebs. I even watched the into from tales from the crypt a few times. Maybe some mold on the walls and some more variant tiles.

@MerlinX420:
I like this Wall with the bodies inside very much MerlinX420. :-)
I would say: Keep up the good work. But which floor do you like to have with it?
Maybe we this floor from the arena tileset fits, but has to be recolored to be darker.
So that it fits to your basement fo the wall

@skipy:
If you look at the crypt from outside, would you expect such a dirty inside?
IIMHO in the crypt it is cleaner, more the wy MerlinX420 did the walls.
Since I don't know the plans for the whole map, I would propose that you work fits good for the chamber of the grim reaper.
This chamber could be located behind a hidden door in the crypt (I mean its another level deeper inside, below the crypt.)
Edit: The candles look nice, just seen now Oo.

So I would try to develop in different ways.
I just don't know in which direction I should go?

How do I create candles with shimmering light? I mean how to make a moving tileset? Or will this shimmer-effect be put there afterwards?
