Weight Balancing

Post by _Cordo_ »

WildX has suggested a need to balance the weights of items for player
inventories and possible storage. My thinking is this seems to be
something players may seek a participatory role in. Understand, nothing
is as of yet set in stone.

I open this thread here for all players to be welcomed to discuss
weight balancing issues. Please do share your thoughts regarding item
weights. Let me kick off with an example.

Imho, the tortuga shells weigh a bit much. They weigh 325 florin
presently. I would suggest they weigh only 100 florin, unless a need
exists for the 325 florin weight. We as players need to be accepting of
story line considerations even deciding of weights, and there may be
some.

So, what do you think?

Item weights should be as realistic as possible while, at the same time, allow for enough items to be carried at the same time. I suggest basing everything on some basic item weights such as iron or wood, so that we can easily assign a weight value for items made of any given material.

I concur with WildX's idea of basic item weights. Items such as wood
or iron should have well defined weights, as to allow determination of
the weight of items made with those materials. For example an iron
shield may weigh in at roughly 300 florin having been made of sixty iron
units. This would mean a standard weight of 5 florin per iron unit.

Having standardized weights makes things easier on developers and
players. I lets developers sort out issues regarding inventory & storage
for the players. It gives players a reasonable idea of game play too. We
get to have easier comprehension of choices in game.

Back over to anyone else? :)

I answered on the other thread, and it has been changed recently to 95 florins.
The 325 florins is just a mistake, but I like your initiative for this thread, it's very hard to balance this kind of stuff while being a dev and working on multiple things, player's opinion is a must.

The actual balance is using 1/10 of an IRL item weigh in grams.
Thus the currency name, Florin, because a Florin is exactly weighting 10gram. :)

Wow! I am impressed. :) And at the same time humbled. ^-^
Thank you for changing weight promptly. I thought perhaps it
would take a bit to implement, and would have been
understanding of that.

Such things are easy to change, the difficulty is to know what to write. ^^
