Just a suggestion, but would it be possible to call the dwarfs something else? When we had the game backstory meetings a few years ago we all agreed that we would like to avoid the typical cliche fantasy races (elf, dwarf, orc) and try to make our own. I still think that this is not a bad idea.

The miners can have any characteristics you need for your backstory, but just by not calling them dwarfs and maybe giving them one or two characteristics uncommon for standard tolkien dwarfes you would add a lot more originality.
yes they prefer to be called little people :p

Your female barbarian looks great!

I have one proposal for her clothes:
Since Thermin is located in snow area, her fur of a cat seems a bit displaced. What about clothes, which look like fur of a bear or a wolf or a yeti?

Here what I suggest using salmondine's work.

Well I was thinking snow leopard but... Idc. Ali's looks pretty good =]

The Image is still in layers...except for boots I pixeled those over a png.
Here is the "Blank" little black dress", if anyone wants to do clothes

Here is the male version...
Image Not finished but a starting point for Barbarian Images.

Someone said gnome so...I'm not sure if this really works in this scenario...also unfinished.

This was my take on what a therminor might be before wombat posted additional info.

salmondine & Ali-G, i really like what you have here....imo ,what i think would work best is mixing the look of Barbarian in the size of the gnome with a scruffy beard...

keep up the great work"Rally-ho"(a bug leg to any one who can tell me where i get "Rally-ho" from)

Lol, here is a "bad" Barbarian Club that people could use as weapon :)

EDIT: just found out that there was already a Barbarian Club made: Image

Don't forget that we could implement Club Image + Tomahawk Image at the same time we implement Thermin (maybe not the tomahawk cause it is not a barbarian thing...)

For ages, the people of Thermin mined the precious firerock below the city. Several years ago, the miners released some poisonous gas while they were mining a new area, forcing them to flee the mine. Not wanting to give up the town, they collaborated together on ways to not just re-enter the mine, but to also defend the town from the Yeti. In the end, they advanced several forms of technology to succeed at this task.

Already done: Bowler hat, top hat, monocle, gas mask, wheellock pistol, clockwork armor-wearing NPC, gasmask-wearing NPC

Need: Barbarian NPCs (needed for the general area, but barbarian traders sometimes come into town to trade furs for goods), Dwarf NPCs, Human NPCs (winter weather clothing helpful), Sages of Kaizei (Santa Claus styled clothing, with unique features to what they wear), Human NPCs (steampunk), Firerock (an item fire lizards will drop).
Wombat wrote:Dwarves are now "Therminors". Name chosen based on them being native people to Thermin. The people take the name from the contrast of the ever hot rocks they collect from the mines to the cold temperatures they live in (they bring heat to the world). A slight red tint to the skin, squat stature for being largely underground for eons and a hardy voice that can be heard well through the echoes of caves define this race.
So Barbarians are supposed to be dwarf/Therminors?
I thought they were larger muscular humans. Has something changed from above?

I would suggest to develope the NPCs and the equipment in the background separately. One as NPC sprite and one as map tile.

why, I thought there was no limit to npc size.
I asked this specifically on IRC....long before these were began.
seriously why?
I do have the elements in separate layers.
let me know mapper people if they are needed...I mean its easy enough.

1. Separating them allow to reuse both the background items and the NPCs separately for other purposes. The machinery would also look good without the NPC in front as map decoration.
2. I believe that when you design the background objects as map tiles instead of NPC sprites you will make them fit better into the tileset.

Here is what I did from the work done before (it still needs shading for the machinery...):

This is only a fixed version (some pixels were incorrect) but it still doesn't have shading.

They are now 2 separate pictures. Use shading on machinery and maybe, change the guy.

Polished in the gizzard of a fire lizard.
I suggest we use it instead of creating a useless item once again.
My point is that we can associate it with Ice Cube. By that i mean that Ice Cube will be used to create Ice Arrows so Fire Stones could lead up to Fire Arrows. In addition, it should be dropped by 5% like the Ice Cube.

Another idea is that if we associate a Fire Rock, an Ice Cube and an Empty Bottle, we can make a Bottle of Water + a Rock without anymore heat. For example the same rock but without anymore heat.
