I was less of a fan when freenode banned the use of Mibbit and other web chat clients citing abuse, but then refused the generous offering from Mibbit to work with them to continue the service and curb potential abuse. Still, freenode is free, and is the only IRC server with tmw community chat, so it's not like I had an alternative, nor did the community have any compelling incentives to use anything else.

Having said that, if you setup up IRC on Platinum, it wouldn't kill me to have a tab of it open in my chat client to use both to give it a chance. I give it my blessings (hoping it'll have NickServ). IMHO, you would attract users to it if it has a web chat module for the casual home user who knows nothing about IRC clients (and links to the webchat client from the forum or homepage) .

Hi,

at the moment I don't really see the disadvantage or the advantages of freenode or of a new system. Maybe it's just because I'm not that long involved in the game and therefore in the IRC channel. Up to know I can only say that for me everything was fine all the time I was online. So I have no idea why to change except of what other people say.
So if there is something like security problems in the system and they won't be there in the new system I say "YES, change the system". Otherwise I don't really see a reason to change. But as I said before, this may only be the reason as I'm new here.

So... what exactly was the point of the poll? You state again and again that this is a monarchy and not a democracy, and the poll clearly shows the public opinion on this, yet you did it anyway. Why not just put the stupid server online and announce it? Why the poll and this discussion?
